hi
i just got into mills, usc, and american (as the title indicates) and was wondering if anyone had any advice on which program is better?
id love to go to ucsf med school, and so im leaning towards mills or usc because of california residency.

does anyone know if working/volunteering at a school/hospital affiliated wtih the school can help you get in? i know that clinical experience is highly recommended, but does it look better to do it at the school where you want to go, or does it not matter.

thanks!

Congrats on your acceptances. I only know about Mills (I'm doing the postbac here now) but can give a few comments.

Mills is a good program with small class sizes. I found the courses to be VERY difficult compared to my undergrad classes and other JC prereqs. It is supportive in the sense of students helping each other out, but not huge amounts of support from the college (I think advising is a weakness). Quality of the courses was extremely high and the program seems to be very well respected.

As to UCSF, Mills has a VERY high acceptance rate to the UCs. It was mentioned that this application cycle, we had five acceptances to UCSF so far this year. Acceptances to the UCs are always quite high here.

If you're hoping to attend a UC and are currently not a Californian, get out here and get residency. It's nigh on impossible otherwise.

I talked to an advisor who said volunteering at a hospital or college where you hope to apply is not weighed into the equation in your application. They're much more interested in the actual quality of the volunteering, not the name of where it was.

Good luck!
