I got in too. I have question, guys. Did you do your drug screening yet?

First off, congrats to everyone that got into LIU. Second, for those that did get in can you post your stats? I just want to see them so I know what I have to work towards to have any hope of getting in myself. Also, if you could post whether or not you were pre-pharm at Brooklyn, Post, or a transfer from another school. Thanks 🙂

I was accepted to LIU!!🙂 yay!

LIU was the only school I applied to. I am a transfer student. I am graduating early this may with a BS in Biology and chem minor, magna cum laude (Overall GPA 3.8, Major GPA 4.0) from Hofstra U (it only took me 3 years instead of 4). Did undergrad research, had 3 good LOR, 82% on PCAT, interviewed Feb 21 🙂

Congrats to everyone else too!

hey..those u got accepted..did u guys receive a sheet saying when ur registration date was to meet with a counselor??..i'm a transfer..and i heard that anohter person got it.??..

Congrats Man. Waiting sucks and i am sure you are relieved now. If by chance you get into MCPHS, I would advise you to go there cuz you could spend less time. It is a 3 year program. However, consider your tuition rates before making any decision. Good Luck

Yay!!! I Got In!!!😍

I thought I would have a heart attack when the mail came, but when I saw the thick envelope, I knew I was in!😉

Hello everyone!!!
I got in to both schools LIU and TOURO pharmacy class 2013.
I am very 😀 but now I don't know which school is better 😕

LIU + LIU -
Its a well known school It has 200students/class
Clinical is only in the last year

TOURO+ TOURO-
Has 2years (last) of clinic Not well known
80 students/class

Please let me know which school I should consider.

Congrats PharmDRx; I say visit both schools and see which one you like better, lots plus and minuses for both schools, its what you feel most comfortable that really matters as you'll be spending your next 4 years there...I went to LIU for undergrad and personally I perfer a change in environment....At the end of the day, prestige of the school has little to do with anything really, PharmD is a PharmD is a PharmD..

Congrats on getting in both schools! Not everyone has the luxury of choosing..

I am also having the same problem deciding which school to attend.

Pro of LIU:
the school is accredited and has been around for many years
it is closer to my house

Con of LIU:
it has 220 students per class
it has 3 yrs of classes and 1 yr of rotations

Pro of Touro:
it is a small class size
it has a 2+2 program
Personally for me I observe jewish holidays- so wouldnt miss class like I would in LIU
I know a couple pple going there- it is good to have a support system there already with other students
Cons of Touro:
not accredited yet
LIU has a better name
an hr train ride as opposed to 20 min

Thank you onehot for your input. Were you also deciding between LIU and TOURO? I mean I like smaller classes, I believe you get more you of them and that there is more practice in Touro is another plus. I believe you attend TOURO NY what do you think about the professors and the practice, since I heard students get a chance to practice once a week in the hospital. Once again thank you for your help 🙂

I already paid 2k, 1st deposit and I was sure I will go to TOURO. But now I am having doubts because its not well known. The pro and cons you have mentioned, I agree but its the whole new program that makes me feel uncomfortable and that so many people tell me I should not even think since I got into LIU.....sooooo 😕

So where are you going LIU or TOURO?

Hey mind if you go to Touro so there will be more open seats..got waitlisted and hoping I get in lol ..just j/k...

lol . . . i got into LIU but will be going to another school, so someone on the waitlist can have my spot . . .

I really have no idea at this point. At the beginning of the year I was planning on going to LIU if I got in, now that I got in I am having my doubts. I have a friend in Touro now and she is very happy and feels like she is learning practical stuff for pharmacy practice. Boh programs are quite difficult but one less year of studying can be a good thing. LIU is 20 minutes from my house and Touro is like over an hr. Some classes start at 8- meaning I have 2 wake up at 6. I guess I will have to decide soon

Classes start from 9-5 I believe, this was discussed at the interview..

Its a tough decision...Just go wherever you think will make you happy...I suggest you do your own research and see for yourself what you want to do...

For myself personally, since I finshed my undergrad at LIU, going to LIU for another 4 years for grad school makes me sick to my stomach...Not that there is anything wrong with LIU, its a personal choice..

I'm not sure what to expect at TOURO but its unknown that makes it interesting...The idea of having New York City as my campus and also serving the community that it brings is a unique and exciting experience...Not to mention having the opportunity to be a part a up and coming community like Harlem will shape you into a well rounded pharmacist...In addition, the student body will be more diverse than LIU since there are a lot of people coming from different parts of the country and not just tri-state area..Everyone is older and have solid academic backgrounds (4 year degrees) which adds to a mature student body...LIU might have the prestige and establishment over TOURO but TOURO has a hell of a punch of potential...I expect this program to improve and get more competitive each and every year...

As far as accrediation, they got the ACPE visit at the end of April and will move in Candidate status once the ACPE board approves in July..Once in candidate status, TOURO students will have the SAME rights and priviledges as a full-accredited institution..Just keep in mind that no pre-candidate status institution has ever failed to reach full-accrediation status according to ACPE...

Touro is a much better school right now because they are brand new. Also the fact that the class size 80 students compared to 220 its gonna be a much better environment to learn. And Touro is going to be easier then LIU wen it comes to grading. And also I think Touro is cheaper than LIU. And also Touro has less in class time because they do 2 years of Rotations which works out good for you if you have pharmacy experience, because it is easy.

Thank you all for your input. I am leaning more towards TOURO. I hope to see some of you there, who ever is going that is. By the way how many of you decided to go with Touro?

In 🙂 - only wish now that I applied to Touro after reading the above posts!
Still waiting and hoping for LECOM Erie (waitlisted!)
On hold without interview at Buffalo (aware chances are slim to nothing, so I'm eliminating this school from the hopeful list.)🙁

Did you apply to Touro? I didn't. For me it's already enough that the school is not accredited 🙄

bklyngirl, congrats!

Congrats to you too!

I didn't apply to Touro, but would have if I was eligible. Don't think that Touro being non-accredited right now will cause any problems in the future. Once their first class graduates, they will join the list of accredited schools.
As far as I can see, they seem to have a much more experienced student body. Their incoming class is more mature and knowledgeable about the profession compared to LIU's. They also require more advanced science course completions for admission, which prevented me from applying.

Your post is a bit confusing to me! Your main objective and goal throughout your previous posts has been focused towards LIU. If you firmly believe everything you have mentioned above, then WHY did you not put all your effort into getting a seat at Touro?
What does being a brand new school have to do with better quality? Many people would disagree 100%! Why also do you think that Touro's grading system will be easier than LIU's (what an immature response!) From what I can see from the threads posted by LIU pre-pharmers, common sense and intelligence seems to be lacking a bit, which is making me wonder how difficult are the standards for LIU pre-pharmers in progressing to the professional phase? :scared:

After reading the post "Drug Screening at LIU" from pharmyman, and a few others I won't mention, I can understand why you're leaning towards Touro!
Whatever your decision, I wish you the best!

bklyngirl you have some good points..I think most of the info posted on this forum or any public forum for that matter is usually based on opinion...Some people like to jump on the bandwagon if you know what I mean..No pun intended to the OP of course...

But not for nothing, LIU does produce some steller pharmacists...I've met a few of these exceptional pharmacists from my years of retail experience...But they are rare, I could only name a few out of the many that graduated from there...Some new LIU graduates are just plain clueless and seem like they have never worked a day in their life...But I guess it varies by a case to case basis...

Again, like I said before, PLUS's and MINUSES on whichever you choose..From reading many of the threads here, the best decision is to pick the school that you feel FITS you the best..

Oh yeah, I forgot to add, externships and rotations can be the hardest..I wouldn't take them lightly...

SO why would u go to LIU if its so bad???:scared::scared:

LIU is probably one of the craziest experiences A for one the people that usually succeed are cheaters, and theirs so many fake people at the school Yes, their are some brilliant individuals that will succeed because they want to be pharmacist but a large group of these teenagers are just being pharmacists for the money... and its kind of funny because some of the people above I know are from LIU and i can guess who they are also but like I said before its not everyone that's crazy just a large majority.

That is very true. Everything these days is based off money money money..that's what most care about rather than their interests or professional status. By the way "their" is spelled "there" in this context.

SO why would u go to LIU if its so bad???:scared::scared:

Never said LIU was "bad", just questioning the competence of the progressing pre-pharmers at the school.
Why would I go to LIU? I'll keep this simple so that you can comprehend:
In order to earn a pharmD degree.... must attend a pharmD program.
Only one acceptance offer (LIU).... that's where I'll go!

I couldn't agree with you more (as I also know a few stellar pharmacists who are LIU alumni.) Unfortunately, they must be in the minority - which gives reason to LIU's low NAPLEX passings.
I have no doubt that LIU provides all you need to be successful, but they still need work on their weed out system (too many brainless individuals coming out of their program.)
As far as externships and rotations being quite hard - I agree with you 100%.
Thanks for your clear and informative perspective on the school!🙂

no sounds like an LIU student trying to get you to go to touro they want your spot

 That's what I thought as well, but the poster claims he/she got into LIU (and is SO EXCITED about it.) Couldn't understand why the same poster is then trying to lead people towards Touro - totally confusing😕

Hi, is 2 literature classes really necessary? Can you take the 2 english literture classes in LIU once you are accepted? yes or no?

If you have a bachelor's degree, all u need r the pre reqs and 27 social science credits. If you dont, I rememeber reading in the student handbook, that there is room to take non science and math once in the program. I suggest you read the handbook on the LIU site.

its that or they are just trying to make Touro students feel that the school is also good, what ever the case might be, I have already made up my mind. Thanks for the heads up.
