Just got the UC Davis secondary! Yeah! 🙂

Still waiting on the other UC's...

has anyone heard from Columbia regarding their file completion? It's been a while since I sent in everything, but I haven't received any email or anything regarding my application status.

sorry, i've been away from the computer for 4 days (travel). anyway, i just got the UCLA secondary invitation in the (snail) mail today, and i'm from hawaii. woohoo, a few of us OOS made the first screen!

I received Loyola today via snail mail.
AMCAS verified 7/15.

Got Utah today....

6:20 PM

Its as long as rumored and probably more than I want to do.

Got UCLA today, and OHSU (I'm a CA resident, so this is pretty cool). Both by snail mail. I wonder how many secondaries OHSU sends out?

When was your amcas application in?

That's the only one I plan to not fill out. Any thoughts? Will this work against me? I figured it would be worse to whine about something insignificant. My 4 year old cousin wants me to add a smiley. 🙂

I submitted mine on 7/26 but have heard nothing. 🙁

Can I list "writing secondary essays" as an extracurricular activity? Ugh! I'm getting so sick of this! At least I've reached my halfway point: 20 submitted, 19 or so to go!

Yea UCLA screens for MD secondaries...(although maybe not for mstp, judging from the promptness and wording of my mstp secondary invite from them)

is the MSTP secondary the same as the MD? any word on if they screen or not? I just checked my status/accessed secondary online. Seems like the same questions everyone is being asked.

I haven't seen a regular MD UCLA one, but you're right it does sound the same from what people have been posting. The screening thing tho is kind of an interesting point to me...I wasn't verified until 7/28, but I already had a (MSTP) secondary invite from LA on 8/8, which seems like a *really* short time to get any screening done...plus it seems that some MD applicants who were verified way back in June didn't get their invites till after this. Guess it begs the question if someone could potentially apply mstp, get rejected, and then get in regular md even tho they would have missed the original md cutoff if they applied straight md? hmm....

ah yes, the ancient loophole of admission

Verified 7/21/05.

I was verified on 7/27 and I bet that I have to wait at least another month to get OHSU's secondary since I'm an in-state applicant.

😱 And I though it was bad applying to 20! I don't think you need to list "writing secondary essays" as an extracurricular activity, it could pretty much define you as a person at this point!

I guess I'll stop complaining now! 😳

Anyone else get a reminder from Stanford to submit their secondary? I did, and it hasn't even been 2 weeks 😱 This made me kind of nervous. I hope they don't think I'm not interested in their school! maybe I'm just bein paranoid.... 😳

Hey! Colorado! woohoo.

vcu says its a no go. Its cool...i'm pretty much out of money.

I think there's a thread on here somewhere about this...seems like they just sent that email out to everyone...so don't worry. 🙂

Hey, I didn't get the reminder from Stanford! But I got one from MCW last week and was pretty annoyed so I'm not too upset.

I got Colorado today also. Uhmm....remaining med schools? If you are going to send me a secondary can you hold off a little until I catch up? Thanks.
😀

Colorado is in! But did you notice on the application form it says the fee is $80, but in the instructions the fee is $100?

ooh, I hadn't. I'm assuming it's $100 but maybe we should check. $20 is not chump change to me right now.

Finally received Wayne State and Loyola...come on MSU

I just got rejected pre-secondary by University of Nebraska. No big surprise. I'm out of state and they take a really really really really small percentage of out of state residents. Saves me the secondary fee 😀

I sent Missouri in this afternoon, I got it yesterday. The essays were pretty much the same as I have done for other schools so it was more or less cut and paste with a few changes.....

Dear Applicant,

The University of Wisconsin Medical School (UWMS) has recently recieved your AMCAS application.
At the point of receipt of the AMCAS application, each school has a unique system of processing the applications. At UWMS our Admissions staff verifies that minimum MCAT scores of 7 verbal reasoning, 7 physical sciences, and 8 in biological sciences and GPA of 2.8 are met. Next our Admissions Committee reviews AMCAS applications and extends invitations to submit our secondary application. This takes some time and it is likely you may not hear from us for a few weeks.

Eh, low standards eh? luckily i BARELY made the verbal cut off!!!

Okay, I thought I was done submitting my secondaries for this week, but then I looked at my budget again, and it looks like I'm canceling my trip to Ikea for a new desk, and my trip to Old Navy for new pants, and instead I'll be submitting Mt. Sinai and Emory. *sigh* I wish I had more $$.

No kidding. I wish more of my schools would take a credit card payment. Then I can charge it all and pay as I get each paycheck! All these "check required" schools are killing me!

Just got Vermont's secondary. E-mail link to an online application site, which unfortunately doesn't recognize my AMCAS ID. Time to make a phone call....

I can't get in either- called- no call back yet

I got it too -- at precisely the same time and date.

The 4500 character personal statement is a great way to weed out applicants who don't really really want to go there....

Got Colorado as well today. Anyone know if they screen or not? And secondly how many out-of-staters are applying there. I read on their website the first year's tuition was 72K 😱 😱.
CAN YOU FREAKING BELIEVE THAT. That has to be more than anywhere else in the nation. Since my parents live there I could possibly finagle instate tuition, but OMG.

I'm going with 80 which is still a crap-load.

Don't sweat the 70k dollar tuition since you'd be getting in state tuition the next 3 years. It all evens out when you consolidate your debt. 😱

Word on the streets is that Colorado screens.

um yeah that's why i didn't put them on amcas. it's instate tuition after 1st year, but still...wtf.

I just looked on the Colorado site again and now the app says $100 fee. My app when I printed it right before "submit" says $80. Still no word from CU on my email asking for clarification.

And no, Colorado does not screen. They were just really really really late this year for some unknown reason.

Actually, I'm curious, is that true for all public schools? After the first year, you qualify for the resident tuition, so you don't have to pay the large out of state fees?

If you come to oregon you have to pay out of state tuition for the full time you're here. This applies to all the undergrad schools too. I believe each state has its own residency laws.

anybody else NOT get their colorado secondary today? 😱

That is why i didn't apply to colorado, i knew their tuition is THE HIGHEST of all med schools.

oregon doesn't have state tax. mm. Republicans.

haven't got mine yet. I'm in-state though. Suckers.

Its not that I don't want to go there.

Ther personal statement is no problem. I've got a closet-full of those.

The time limit along with the numerous letters of recommendation, and a requirement for a class in diversity. I'm a graduate student, and after looking at my undergraduate transcript, I don't have a single class that falls under that category.

I'll probably apply and hope I can convince them that a certain class I took can qualify for that course.

I don't have any "diversity courses" in my record either and I've been out of school for awhile. It's not a problem -- you just have to take that class sometime before matriculating.

What is a class in diversity? 😕

There's little point in taking a class next spring semester unless an acceptance has been granted this Fall.

Although I am very confident in my application, I'm not sure they'll accept me before the time comes to register for a course next spring.

I was going to quote them from their site, but for some reason I am getting an error message when I try to log in.

Anyway.. I remember something liek a course in Ethnic politics, gender studies, women studies... something along those lines...

Thanks, I was just curious. Requirements like that always make my ears perk up. I had a class on Native American tribes of North America. I wonder if that would count.

That will definitely count there... they are really big on Native Indian issues. I got a brochure from them sometime last week and that brochure contained information about their outreach programs and that was a big issue.

That will probably be a plus for you!
