Hello all!
I am currently a 29 year old Recreational Therapy/Pre-OT Student in North Carolina. I decided to return to school three years ago to pursue a career in OT, but needed to finish an undergraduate program. I should graduate with a 3.6 and over 200+ hours of OT observation. My school even has a policy where if you are in the Pre-OT program and graduate with a 3.5 GPA or better---you automatically get a spot in the OT program! Great, right?
This is the problem/question!! I started filling out the OTCAS this week and I realized that they wanted transcripts from previous schools...I was not a great student when I was younger! I took classes at two community colleges with no direction or goals, but more because I was expected to. I just ordered my transcripts and realized I earned four F's with several A's & B's, and a lot of withdrawals! I cringe thinking about it! Some of these classes were 8-9 years ago, and I honestly I hadn't even given them any thought in the past 5 years. (At one college my cumulative GPA was 3.18 and another 3.083) I'm now getting the picture that OTCAS is going to combine all grades from your past. Is this correct? Surely they will take the past few years into consideration and realize that kids can make a few mistakes after high school during that "finding yourself" period.
Just wanted to get opinions and I hope I'm just being paranoid. I'll be going to an OT info session in the next few weeks, where I plan to bring this question up, but I would really love any feedback until then!
Thanks!!
Amanda
