Hi everyone! Im a Canadian student looking into applying to both Canadian and US pharmacy schools. Ive been going through the US pharmacy schools what seems like one-by-one and many are listing that, in order to be considered for admission, one must have an xx minimum GPA and a "minimum grade of 'C' in the listed pre-reqs".

I am finding that my GPA is notably higher than the required cutoffs, but one of my organic chem credits (a requirement which seems to be stated by all schools all over) is total garbage (D grade). So it means I'm basically out? That is balls.

Or can someone please clarify or give some sort of success story that they did ass in organic and still got in? Canadian schools seem to look at your overall GPA instead of individual pre-req marks (Im on the waiting list for U of Toronto for 2010 pharmacy admissions now, so I think Im a decent competitor.)

I am wondering if I will be wasting time and money because of one stupid mark. What do you think? 😕

A "D" grade down here is considered failing. So no I do not think that there are many Stateside schools that would let you in with a failing grade in arguably the most important prereq.

Good Luck though! 👍

Retake the course. Make your average between the two courses higher than a C.

Hopefully that would do the trick. I know if you apply to USN, all you have to do is retake the course with a higher mark.

Unfortunately, the posters before me are right. Schools are not lenient regarding their pre-requisite requirements. However, if you do retake OChem and can pass it, you will do just fine considering you are satisfying everything else with flying colors.

As an aside, I did terribly in the second half of OChem (D+) but retook it at a CC, got an A and was recently accepted into my first choice.

Good luck! :luck:

Thanks everyone!

Yeah it's weird because the Canadian schools here (eg. Waterloo, University of Toronto) advise that if we passed, we should not re-take the course but should strive to raise marks of subsequent grades after that. I did pass organic, but that sure does suck! Im in a bit of a predicament bc I dont want to screw my chances at US schools if I have one (GPA is good overall and aside from one craptastic orgo mark), nor do I want to screw myself at Canadian schools.

Thanks again!!!
