hey guys..i was over at predents.com and looking at the "average GPAs" for schools. while i realize that predents is probably representative of a fraction of the acceptees, i just wonder why i'm not seeing higher gpas. 17 out of the 57 schools have gpas below a 3.5.

when i was in undergrad, i was under the impression that if i got one B, then it was like death. i would stay up going over every detail for tests, knock myself out reading chapters, etc. lol. not to be arrogant or anything and i realize that this is not the case now, seeing the average gpas, but i truly believed that.

ok anyways i guess it just kind of surprises me that there's not more type A undergrad people out there lol. i went to high school with some people like that. in one kids family, no one had ever gotten a B out of four kids. ever.😱 now that is kind of crazy so i guess thats where i got this idea that i had to have a perfect gpa.

note to applying predents: you don't have to have a perfect gpa to be accepted.

in retrospect, i wish i would have known that i could chill out a little bit more sometimes lol

I know it seems low. There's so many people that apply. I wonder what the average applicant's GPA is? Do most students hover around the average? Or are there a lot of extremes..like a lot of 3.0's and a lot of 4.0's?

Even knowing what I know now..I still think I would have work as hard as I did because even sitting here with a high GPA..I am still nervous to apply!

Has anyone noticed that pre-dents hasn't updated their stats like ever.....and i've been looking on the site for ages....or is that just me?

Yeah, from what I remember of the ADEA stats from last year, the average accepted GPA was 3.4 and 19DAT. That's significantly lower than one would believe from reading many posts on here and information from some pre-health advisers.

The ADEA stats were just meant to be a plus. The stats as the applicants apply is what the site is really about.

However, since those stats that you refer are important and more accurate (although a year old) I plan on making a sort of Wiki type thing so people can update those stats from the ADEA guide as soon as one of you all get the latest copy. In addition, they will be "assigned" to each cycle. As it stands now there is no history of the ADEA guide, just one entry, regardless of cycle.

average dat was 19, but average gpa was 3.55

Where is everyone getting these numbers? lol Acording to the new ADEA book (pg. 45) these are the average enrollee DAT and GPA for 2008

DAT : AA 18 (range 12-27), PAT 19 (11-30), TS 18 (11-30)
GPA : sGPA 3.5, cGPA 3.5

sooo for one person accepted with a 4.0, another person could have a 3.0 and such to balance out to a 3.5....

who got a 12 and do their parents own the dental school?

You'd think with an AA of 12 you would need more than parents who own the school. More like parents who own the entire state and maybe have in their possession some very interesting photographs of the dean!

that profile is completely made up

edit: snort, editing your post to a "." so I'm talking to myself.

hello my name is George W..Glass. My AA is low, but I have good references.

Where's doc toothache when you need him/her? I would have expected them to have posted that link to where average stats are tabulated (from 2008-2009). Haha!

Cheers.

The GPA's had a large range to it also. sGPA 2.0-4.2, and cGPA 2.1-4.2.
Not sure how they got a 4.2 unless some students were on a 4.3 scale or something. I have no idea how people with under a 2.5 got in but just goes to show you that anything is possible.
some schools are on a 5.0 scale. the only one i can think of off the top of my head is MIT.
