GPA Question

I have one B on my transcript right now from a dual enrollment class I took in high school. It was during the pandemic (March 2020) so most of us did bad as we were not being taught. This would be easy to explain during interviews.

After receiving that B, I have maintained all A's at my university. My transcript right now has all A's and one B. This semester has been a hard one and I currently have a B in one class. This would be 2 B's in my transcript. How much would having 2 B's affect my chances of getting into med school. My GPA would also drop. I have a 3.95 right now so it will go down to a 3.9-3.92.

@LMAGZ you are obsessing way too much on this one number. Your GPA is great.
Make sure you also work on other parts of getting ready to apply like getting to know some professors for letters of evaluation, and doing some community volunteering off campus.

Stop.

Think about it like this: If we demanded everyone have a 4.0, 520+ MCAT, outstanding extracurriculars AND writing, etc., there wouldn't be nearly enough physicians in this country. A 3.92 won't sink you; heck even if your grades drop as low as 3.8 you will still be in strong position. Anything above a 3.9 is basically just splitting hairs.

Don't even bother to "explain" the B's — those are normal grades and any attempt to "apologize" profusely for them may make you seem like you can't cope with the very real failure you will experience in this field, whether it be in medical school, residency, fellowship, or attendinghood.

Focus more on everything else that leads to a good application: Clinical experience, research, leadership, the MCAT (not now, eventually) and non-clinical service work. And as I always say don't forget to live and let live a little bit — you only go through undergrad once and, for better or for worse, these years before med school will be the most free and flexible you have until attendinghood.

STOP!

Your application is about the whole you and not just your very good GPA! What is the rest of your application like? How about filling out a WAMC grid so you can get some real advice on where you stand.

Is a 3.8-3.9 GPA competitive?
Highly.

As the others have advised. Get a grip on your anxiety or obsession. Getting into medical school requires good grades, which you have, and a lot of other experience and qualities. Do you have those too?

Especially good coping skills!
