GPA question.

My question is, how is it looked upon if instead of a general upward trending GPA you have a dip in GPA a certain semester/year. Freshman year I took classes that didn't challenge me so I got perfect grades, then I got into Pre-Med and my GPA fell a little. If my GPA goes up in Junior year solidly, will they likely ask me about sophomore year?

The "upward trend" can realistically be thought of as any subsequent increase in grades (sustained over a period of time) occurring after any dip in GPA. For example, I had a poor sophomore year, but my junior, senior and grad grades all increased in an upward trend.

Depending on how poorly you did, they might ask. I wouldnt be surprised, so be prepared either way to discuss reasons behind the poor performance and what you learned from the experience.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I got a 3.3, bringing by GPA to a 3.7. It wasn't tragic, and it was all A's and B's. My sciences suffered with a few more B's than I should have gotten though, but I'm working on that this summer and this year.

If you get a solid 3.7 your junior year, you'll be in great shape.

I just wanted to ask since it was such a significant dip for me. It does make sense that a lot of people do though. Thanks for your opinions.

It doesn't sound like a big deal. If you can show that you can handle the pre-reqs and upper level courses, you should be in great shape.
