what are the most common gpa cut off marks for most medical schools?


right now I have a 3.48 cumulative and 3.47 scigpa... am I okay? I plan to apply broadly.

There's no way of knowing the cut-offs except for the few schools that publicly talk about it. A more useful exercise would be to look at the MSAR for the 10th percentile GPAs for accepted students for each school.

I wouldn't say you're "okay" but you are above the 10th percentile at most MD schools and certainly above most cut-offs (except for very highly ranked schools)

okay thanks for your response! the reason I ask is, I am thinking about taking an online cc class for this spring to push my gpa to 3.5 just in case the cut off mark is 3.5.... the problem is the class ends in may 27 and takes two weeks for grades to process and probably another week for the transcript to be sent. Is pushing my gpa to a 3.5 more important or submitting my apps the earliest I can more important? what would you guys do?

I've mostly seen cut-offs right around 3.0, so that shouldn't be an issue. I think the real question is where are you applying and what the average numbers are for those schools (i.e., don't waste your time applying to Harvard, Yale, etc.).

Oh, and I wouldn't say you're "okay," since you are below the average GPA for medical school matriculants (3.61, I think). Also, keep in mind the many other components of a competitive application. Good luck.

The average GPA of an MD matriculant is 3.67 and the average MCAT score is 31.1.

Without knowing your MCAT score and what school you went to (going to a top tier school especially one known for grade deflation might mitigate the lower GPA) I don't see how anyone can reasonably tell you that you will be okay.
