Anyone hear from Jefferson yet? Really getting nervous since that's the only school I haven't heard back from. They told me they would notify me late January, but notify me about what? An interview? I can't wait since that's one of my top choices! :O

Jefferson emailed me today for an interview. Not sure if you heard back yet or not.

Don't lose hope... some people are in situations where they are holding their seat at one school because they're waitlisted at their top choice! At least you were not rejected! There is still time. Now we just anxiously wait until April for people to make their final decisions...ah!

Thanks for your support. I know that it isn't completely over yet, but the fact that I've been wait-listed at so many schools just makes me feel unqualified. I thought I did very well at the interviews, but apparently it wasn't enough to get me accepted. And there's so many people on these waiting lists so who knows how close I am. I guess all I can do is just hope for the best at this point. Best of luck to you!

Has anyone heard from USF or Florida Gulf Coast!?

Florida Gulf Coast sent a confirmation email confirming the receipt of my application, but that's all I've heard from them. I haven't received anything from USF, not even a confirmation that they received my application. Guess it's a waiting game...

My low GPA just can't compete, and there's no realistic way to raise it either with how impacted the JCs/CCs are in California. I'm thinking to throw in the towel for this application cycle and once again try to bolster the other parts of my application.

I don't think sdsu has notified anyone of decisions yet and chapman is only half full at this point....and that's a good gre score, so don't give up hope! Lol. From what I've seen, your gre and ec's could manage to make up for your low gpa!

Damn, you only applied to one school? Best of luck, hope you get in from the waiting list!

Hello! I will be applying to school for the next cycle, but I need some opinions on my GRE score and if you would recommend I retake it with these stats:

UCLA Biochemistry
Cum GPA: 3.11
Prereq GPA: 3.51 (3.87 w/ retakes)
GRE: 155V 154Q 3.5 AW

Observation Hours: 38 Outpatient and 40 SNF (Planning to observe more settings and getting more hours)

Schools I plan to apply to: Chapman, USC, Samuel Merritt, Mount Saint Marys, UMiami, Boston University, UNLV, Touro, AT Still, Loma Linda, St. Augustine, NYU, University of Washington

I am a little concerned about my writing score. Would changing it from a 3.5 to a 4/4.5 make that much of a difference? Is it necessary to cast a wide net of schools with these stats? I hate standardized tests, but if it's necessary to retake the test, I would. I just need all the advice I can get before I prepare for this coming application process.

I would retake it to get a 4.5. The verbal and quantitative are good to go, though.

It depends on the specific schools you are applying to. Some schools have a cut off of scores that they will accept, usually it is 150 Q, 150 V, and 4.0 AW so in that case it is in your best interest to retake and get the minimum. Other schools only look at one portion of the GRE. For example, Indiana University only looks at the verbal portion because they say that people who do well on that portion are likely to do well on the boards also, so in that case you would be on the lower end of competitive and would not need to retake unless you want to. In any case if you have the time and the $$ to retake I would do so. Any edge will help and your cum GPA is low so it will benefit your application overall to have a very strong GRE score.

Hope this helps!

-K

I have a low GPA, and I know personally I wish I would have realized sooner that is more important to apply to smart-choice schools rather than reach/convenient schools if you REALLY want to be a PT. Luckily you have a much higher p-GPA than me, but I would recommend applying to schools with a low average accepted GPA, and APPLY EARLY. I scored similarly to you on the Q and V parts of the GRE, but got a 4.5 on the AW. My GRE has been my saving grace when it comes to applying to schools, so you may want to consider retaking it. Hope this helps!

Definitely the case here. 3.14/3.11, 162/161/5.0. Unfortunately the GPA, I believe, still has a heavier bearing on the final decision. GRE is what keeps my application afloat, but I really wish I could turn back the hands of time and actually care about my classes from six years ago.

I also worked over 3,300 hours in a prestigious outpatient clinic in CT, got my CSCS in October, 2011, and personal trained on and off full and part-time since then. I also help manage the University Gym as part of my graduate assistantship for my masters degree.

I also have a really strong statement of purpose that I spent almost a month crafting and developing. It speaks to why PT and how my future as a physical therapist can help with the healthcare crisis that we are currently and will most definitely still be experiencing in the future. I tied in my Masters degree and explained why I chose to study that topic and how it is directly applicable to my pursuits of practicing Physical Therapy.

Applied: NYMC, UIC, Sacred Heart University, UMDNJ - Rutgers, Stony Brook University, SUNY Upstate University, LIU, NYU, Columbia University, Touro College- Manhattan and Bayshore Campuses, NYIT

I am another unique case and wanted to give hope to other non-traditionals in this application process. It CAN be done. I did spend over three years trying to fix my grades from undergrad while also trying to make myself a uniquely competitive applicant with a Masters Degree in a relevant field. I have tremendous passion for PT and can't wait to start my studies next year wherever I do end up.

My recommendation letter from a physical therapist and confirmation of observation hours came in late, so unfortunately UTC and Belmont ran out of spots before my application was considered complete so I was wait listed. I really want to go to one of those two schools, but I'm starting to lose hope about a spot opening up. I still have UTHSC Memphis coming up so I have that option to stay in Tennessee, but I don't know how many spots they have left to fill.

My application is still under review by Nova and Arkansas State.

I have a deposit due to Wheeling by 2/9, and it is looking unlikely that I'll hear from UTC or Belmont by then.

You didn't interview with Radford? It's surprising to me they wait listed you without interviewing you. Is it a wait list to be interviewed?

**thoughts for non traditionals like me. I was coming in with a lot against me (ie GPA). I know I did a few things right....I wrote a memorable and unique essay. Worked on it forever. My references were very good. And then I prepped like no one else for the interviews. Even though I came in with low stats my plan was to outwork other applicants in everything I could control.

Hey Starrsgirl,

When/how did you find out about Creighton?! I interviewed there on January 17th and actually missed a phone call from them on Monday, is that when you heard? I haven't received a letter yet and since I haven't actually gotten a hold of anyone I'm still not sure what my status is. You don't think they would call with a rejection do you?
