I don't think you missed anything! I got a reject yesterday too, and also being confused about their "not meeting minimal admissions criteria" wording, did some double checking on their site and searches on these boards about them. Seems (according to former students who left the program) as though they want applicants with the Organic Chem. sequence and Biochem., although it says nothing about that in their info. Anyone I saw in past posts who'd gotten in had way extensive science courses beyond the pre-req's. Whatevs! Don't feel too bad.

Hey, it went well in my opinion. It's pretty laid back, and Dean Hartgraves is very personable as well as the rest of the faculty. Talk to the students and ask questions, they give a good amount of insight about the program.

:wtf:

If they don't take someone with your stats, who the heck do they take?!? Are you a Utah resident?

Haha, I have had the same thought several times. I am a Utah resident, but I don't believe they give preference for in-state. I have a friend at BYU with similar stats who also didn't even get an interview. From what I have seen and heard, the U of U prides itself on its diversity and personality and so maybe I just didn't stand out or was perceived to be incompatible based on my essay. Based on my conversations with students and admissions, the U puts a lot more weight on personality and essays than any of the other schools I applied to so it can be more hit-or-miss. The only other thing I can think of is that my application was mis-processed. I don't feel too bad though; I have at least 3 other acceptances with hopefully more on the way.

From what I have seen and heard, the U of U is ridiculously priced for a state school, is ridiculously elitist, and is unreasonably difficult for even high caliber students to get accepted to. They can take their diversity and personality and shove it as far as I'm concerned.

A state resident with the stats that you have not being accepted to the only public program in the state is absolutely abhorrent.

Hello All!

UPDATE - ACCEPTANCE!

University: University of Florida
Major: Industrial & Systems Engineering (graduated in 2007, this is a career change for me!)
PTCAS Overall GPA: 3.28
PTCAS Pre-Req GPA: 3.75
Post-bacc GPA: 4.0
GRE: 161 V / 162 Q / 5.0 AW

Extra-Curric: I'm non-trad, so I agree that there's not a ton of extra time with a full-time job, taking pre-reqs, and getting in observation hours. I'm on the board of a non-profit that works with orphanages in Haiti, and I've also done some occasional volunteering with Special Olympics

Volunteer: Right now, I have about 60 Outpatient, and about 10 Inpatient. That should continue to grow, and I'm hoping to have at least 100 by the time I apply, and even more after that.

My GPA is on the lower side, but all of my lower grades were in specialized engineering classes (helloooo Thermodynamics!) so hopefully they won't have as much of an impact on my chances of getting into PT schools.

Applying: Nova Southeastern, Miami, Maryland, GWU, Marymount, and Arcadia. Hopefully that casts a wide enough net and I'll get into one of them!

Interview: Maryland Baltimore (11/5) Marymount (1/24 - declined) George Washington (1/16)

Acceptance: Maryland Baltimore (deposit sent - 1/2), GWU (1/29)

Now it's time to decide, but these were my top two schools, so it's AWESOME to have been accepted at both.

I guess on I'm on a bit of a bad streak ...Although I applied to too many schools, I hope I provide a good example of how certain programs rate applicants. I made sure I was qualified for all the schools I applied to, and most of the programs were one's that I would like to attend with the exception of 3-4 safety schools. The only school I probably shouldn't have appiled to was UCF, cuz they only accept 5% OOS students, but I would enjoy living in Orlando since I'm passionate about the Magic hahaha. So if you are a non-trad with a pretty good GPA, but a poor verbal GRE score, maybe you can use my application as an example of where to apply to :highfive:

It also shows that most schools value GPA over GRE scores, as long as you write a decent essay and don't bomb the interview (if the school has one)
