Grades for residency acceptance

Im a 2nd year student in Pod school. My grades up to this point have been fine... lets say my class rank is 18 +/- 5 (for anonymity) out of 100. Not too bad, but heres the thing... they're starting to slip. I have a lot going on in my personal life thats out of my control and the stress is starting to affect my grades, Im having trouble juggling everything... which is unfortunate because I know how important these next few months are. So my question is more like a hypothetical situation... lets say that by the end of this year my class rank drops from 18ish to 40 out of 100. How much of an impact will that have on my choices for residency? Im posting this in the residents section of the site because you guys have been through the match already.

Yeah, it'll probably hurt your chances a little, especially if the drop in class rank comes with a corresponding drop in your knowledge base. There will be a few residencies that won't look at you because of your class rank, but those are very few. Overall, if you're in the top half of your class, most programs will still be wide open for you take impress them and win the spot.
