um. we have a wide range of gpas and mcat scores. check mdapplicants. it will give you an idea of what stats people have

quickly 3.5 and a 30

The quick answer is a 3.4 and a 30.

The longer answer: its really random and in the air. There are people with 3.8 and 34 that get rejected. And there are people with 2.9 and 27 MCAt that get in.

You really want us to ask all 10,000+ accepted students what their stats were?

To answer your question though of "what kind of grades/mcat scores" the answer is "good ones".

Sarcasm aside, I had a 3.4 and a 28. I got into 3 MD schools and all the DO schools I applied to.

3.6 and 34. applied late only 1 interview so far to USF. Don't wanna go there.

If your GPA*10 + MCAT > 65, you're probably good to go. You can get in with less, but you can probably rest assured with those numbers.

Interesting... where did you learn that?

Actually I know Mayo screens using 10xGPA + MCAT > 60. That will get your application looked at. Doesn't guarrantee the phone interview though.

SDN. It's just a vague guideline, but it just helps suggest how far "a little leniency" goes when there's a discrepancy between your MCAT and GPA.

this is a decent formula to use to determine if you are, from a numbers perspective, competative. the general conclusions from this are:

- a 3.5 and 30 on the mcat = 65, so this is a good baseline to start with
- for every .1 drop in gpa below 3.5, you need 1 point above 30 on the mcat. and vise versa.

that said don't get too hung up on numbers. they are definately important, but i've always felt that the best way to set yourself apart form other applicants IS NOT by proving that your smarter than them (for the most part). generally speaking, everyone who applies to med school is smart. if you have decent grades, (IE within one standard deviation of their average accepted scores), you're going to need other parts of your application to make yourself interested.

good luck,
S
