Hi everyone. So I'm going in to my third year of university and I'm still devastated over my second semester of freshman year. I decided to take a heavy course load and a new job & it ended up crashing on me. I failed 3 classes (horrible) and I am still worried about that semester. I haven't failed a class since then and I never failed a class before(been taking college classes since I was in hs)... I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me?

Make sure you can explain that situation and convince adcoms that's not the type of student you are. Simply explaining you took a heavy course load and new job isn't sufficient. That was your choice and you had plenty of opportunities throughout that semester to cut back on working or drop a class or two. Getting 3 C's in a semester because you put too many responsibilities on yourself is slightly more understandable. Getting 3 F's is not. Make sure you show them you grew from that experience and that it won't happen again.

Well I was able to handle the courses and work until the last month when my mom went on a business and my brother was partying every night, including finals week.

Did you go to the library or something while your brother was partying non-stop for a month?

I did, but there was only so long that I could stay at the library. I had to come home eventually

Lizzie 1995 aged 20 years old going into junior year. you failed 3 classes ( Let me use my @tooth knockn voice here)....hmmmm
Lets do the math ok......
So roughly 120 credits to graduate.....
3 Classes estimated to 12 credits,......
120-112= 108 Credits....If you got A's in 108 credits, and F in a grand total of 12 credits....
Thats a 3.6GPA.
According to my calculations, you probably will not get A's in 108 credits..
So lets say you got ( since you did not specify your GPA:whistle:).....
Lets say you get 60 credits of A's, 30 credits of A-, and roughly 28 credits of B+, including 12 credits of failure, thats roughly a 3.4 GPA. ....
So if you dont have grades that equate to my chaos mathematics, I assume your GPA will be less than 3.4+pity+......
Also these grades are grades you can attain, provided you didn't get C's, because EVEN if you get 1 or 2 C's..... prayers to your GPA.+pity+

Not joking here but if you do well in the rest of your courses, I think maybe you will have higher than at least a 3.2-3.3GPA, and if you get a good DAT score 22+, you should be alright so use it as motivation and do well(A's) in your courses.

Oh also play around with this http://www.back2college.com/gpa.htm

I didn't receive Fs in my classes, Ds... I know a d is just as bad but not an F

Also thanks for the comments. Harsh but well noted & appreciated

Then you didn't fail your classes. When someone fails a class, they get F's. Check with your school to see if you can retake those classes or not. Some schools won't let you retake if you didn't actually fail the class.

Lol I thought you said you failed, I did say on the bright side plus since you got D's, you can def get above a 3.3 or maybe 3.4 GPA

Sorry, I'm used to Cs and higher being passing only. I have been able to retake two classes and received A's, will take the last one in the fall. Thank you a ton!!
