Hey guys! I just wanted to get this out. I have done fairly well so far. I graduated with a 3.0 with a BBA and returned fall semester to take prereqs for pharm school. I got Chem I: A and Calc I: A. I thought for sure I was smart enough to get all As in my prereq courses. BUT this semester has been quite a wake up call for me. I am shooting straight for a B in Chem II and only have a slight chance for a B in Bio I...more likely a C! And A in chem II lab. I am pretty discouraged because I have been trying very hard and I think (or maybe I just hope) it is specifically my professors this semester. Other professional school bound students are struggling in both of these classes as well and I am doing better than many I talk to...but there are some people getting As too.

I guess I just adjusted to the idea of Bs for the semester but now I fear a C in bio!

That's all...I just wanted to get that out to other people maybe struggling with the same issue. I searched around and apparently a C is not the kiss of death. But with a heavily weighted 3.0 from all the hours it took to graduate...it's going to be hard to have even a 3.5 if I make all As.

Disappointed that's all. My confidence is a little crushed, but my determination isn't. :d

Make sure you get a B in bio and at least an A in chemistry

I heard many Pharmacy schools access an applicant's ability to handle pharmacy curriculum based on chemistry and organic chemistry grades.

study hard and smart

Good luck

I will do the very best I can...but based on my performance on the first 2-3 tests in those classes, and the fact that I need ~95 on the rest to get an A in chem and B in Bio...I just don't know how possible it is...

You shouldn't fully stress about your grades. Just know to be a competitive candidate you should get those A's and having a C is not the kiss of death but you don't want to have too many of them, especially in the sciences. If you do receive some...show that you've worked hard to understand the material by doing well on that section of the PCAT. Overall, if your GPA is not great, do well on the PCAT or gain some experience. Make yourself standout in other areas. If you get too many C's, you should think about retaking a few of the classes.

As far as most of my pre-reqs, I usually clocked in in the B range, and got A's in upper division classes. B's are really not so bad. I got into 2 of the 3 schools I applied to with mostly B's. I think I had a B in Chem 1, B+ in Chem 2, B- in Orgo 1, A- in Orgo 2, and B's in both Bio intro classes. I did have a healthy smattering of A's in upper-division science coarsework, though, which probably helped a great deal. Just work hard, and put a big ol' effort into staying out of C range if you can manage it.

Dont lose ur confidence, the good news is that the semester is not over yet! Give ur BEST shot for the finals, and hopefully that will help you out not being in the C range. I dont believe a few B's and one C can drastically hurt u because you still have advanced classes like organic chem, micro etc left. If you do great in these higher level classes, that will prove your potential to the admission committe. Good luck :luck:

A single C is not the end of the world. I got into pharmacy school and I had a C in calculus, org II, and physics. It's mostly about being a well rounded person. I've got 4 years pharm experience, I volunteer in the community, and was super active in extracurricular activities. The total package is what adcomms are looking for.

I agree...I had C's in both semesters of Organic Chem, and I even withdrew from it once and withdrew from physics once as well. My PCAT scores were not that great either, and yet I still got an offer. What i'm trying to say is, if I can get in...YOU WILL DEFINITELY BE FINE. It really is about being well rounded...make sure to try to stay away from the C range, but be active in your community and try to gain some pharmacy experience. Even if you had all A's, but nothing else on your resume...it won't matter. It's a compilation of things. Don't be discouraged!!! 😀

Now, do not worry much about getting one C in your pre-reqs. I have C+ in Chem 101 for my first semester (it was a semester during which I met my boyfriend and general chemistry was the last thing on my mind). I did not even bother to re-take it - I simply got As (well, couple of Bs) from there on. And I got in...😀

Things like that happen.... move on. Study harder for your upcoming tests, try your best. If you still get a C, oh well, blame it on instructor (that is what I would do!!!!!)😎

Thanks you guys! You have really eased my stress. I do have a lot of ECs - leadership positions, organizations, and even a couple that will probably stand out as being pretty interesting. I am working on adding some pharmacy experience as well.

A C is not the kiss of death....I got in to pharmacy school with C's in Chem II, OChem II Lab, Calc I, and a handful of upper-level non-prereq classes for my major. Hope that gives you some hope.
