Hey all,

Here at LSU, we have a 7 point grading scale (93 is lowest A) for clinical and pre-clinical courses. I'm trying to determine if any other schools have this policy, or similar policies with respect to clinical and p/c courses.

If you would, sound off as to what school you're from, and what the grading scale is like. We would love to get this changed here, and are trying to get the back-up.

Please make sure to include your school name in the reply.

Thanks!

Matt

Matt:

Two things:

1) at Nova, we have straight percentages:

90% = A- = 3.6
80% = B- = 2.6
70% = C- = 1.6
<70% = Failure

2) Look like I'll be on your campus this coming May for a month for my OMS Externship. Any idea where I can look for housing for that month?

We have some odd scales at our school. In the freshman clinical courses an A is 88+. We all thought that was pretty generous until we got the grades for our first practical and realized that still nobody is going to get an A. Everyone quickly became much more concerned with the lower limit of 74.4 as a failing grade. 😱 :😉:

Science courses are graded normally.

For clinical operative/endo procedures my school uses a 4 point system, 4 is excellent, 3 is acceptable, 2 unacceptable and 1 unrepairable. They do not translate into straight marks and is arbitrary. Prostho has a "competency-based" system that tries to make sure the student is gaining sufficient skills by the time they leave. The system theoretically works but practically, is about the same as rolling a dice for marks. Try and guess if I like it 🙂

94+ is an A in all our courses.
