My undergrad doesn't use the +/- system. I just receive letter grades ex: A, B, C.... not A-, or C+

So...when I'm typing my grades into the AADSAS application, what do I enter? I don't want to just enter A, B, C because that will make it seem like I didn't do A+, B+, or C+ work in my courses. It's not fair if I made an A which AADSAS counts as a 4.0 but the schools who issue a student A+ get 4.33 according to AADSAS. LOL...so...can I just add the + to every letter grade I got? 😕

AADSAS will calculate under both scale. So no worry. But if you add +/- by yourself, you will in trouble.🙄

haha, k thanks. i shall not prevaricate my grades then. 😀

A lot of +/- schools don't give A+s so it really isn't fair for most people. Just list the grades you actually got. Your non +/- system is probably more fair because the +/- should even out.

^ the ivies and berkeley (not positive, but i'm fairly certain), some random schools like cuny queens. you'd be surprised

I doubt it will hurt your chances. For every A- you SHOULD have received, you probably SHOULD have also received a B+ in another class, so your overall GPA is the same. Man... if they got rid of +/- at my school I would have had like a 3.8 GPA! Probably half my classes were A-, and another quarter B-... what an advantage you have!

As the poster above me mentioned, if someone that got +/- grades recalculates their GPA using straight letter grades with the appropriate 1,2,3, & 4 grade points, you pretty much get the same grades. The only situation this wouldn't be the case is if an inordinate number of your grades were close to the next letter grade (meaning you wouldn't have gotten any -s but would have gotten a lot of +s). Also, I believe most UCs and Cal State schools give A+s as well.

i always thought all schools give A+'s 🙄

Most of my classes at UC right now only give A+ to 2 or 3 students in a class of 200+. They look so smexy on paper 😛.

Non +/- schools have their advantages too. For us +/- schools, we get screwed for getting 90% and an A-.

You guys don't have that problem.

It's only fair.

You guys get off easy with the -'s, and since I (+/- schools) can't get away with it, it's only fair to be able to get +'s to counter balance the penalties.

For your killing DAT, you don't have to worry about your -'s 🙂

yea my GPA without the +/- is like 0.05 higher (i only have 3 A+'s though)

If it's only fair for schools that have +/- to give A+'s in order to "balance the penalties", why would I only receive an A if I got 100%, but an A- for 93.9%. Seems like most schools don't give out A+'s, so why should AADSAS allow ANY A+ to remain, and not be changed to a regular A? It seems like that we be a fair way to level the playing field a little bit.

Your school is definitely being unfair
If you get A-'s but not able to get A+'s, that isn't really fair.

But yeah. Some professors just don't give A+'s out, unless you are super outstanding, not in terms of the percentage in class but in terms of going beyond the perfect scores.

I'm pretty sure your school has A+ system, you just never received it due to reasons like:

1. Your professors don't give out A+'s easily, or never gives them out like some of my professors,

2. You just never earned 100% in a course to get that A+.

It isn't that easy to earn an A+ at UCLA, though.. It's really hard, you don't see too many A+'s around, but some people are taking a bunch of independent research courses that the professors just give out A+'s like cakes.

I hope dental schools keep this in mind, b/c those research courses are bullcrap

They count as BCP as well!

There are very, very few schools that have A+'s. Very few. Mine was NOT one of them. I worked as a TA and entered grades. A+ was not an option. And we used the letter E instead of F. Oh, I entered some E's.

All AADSAS needs to do is give only a 4.0 for an A+, considering so few schools actually offer them. It's simple. Maybe I'll submit a request to AADSAS.

Actually, I'm too lazy for that. So nevermind.

You get a B- for effort.
