Confess, confess!

How freakin' unreal to be finally done with school after 20-odd years? When is the big day for you? May 26 here.

June 2... crazy and exciting.. Honestly the best part is my parents and how happy they will be. Without them, my wife and the rest of my family I wouldnt have gotten nearly as far..

Mine was May 13th - it does feel great! A bit anticlimactic since I've had the months of April and May off... but still I can't believe residency starts so soon!

This past weekend. Man, does it feel really, really good. One of the best days of my life, I have to admit. And now, on to residency!!!!!!!!!!

It was May 13 for me. Graduation was great, but now I'm just kind of numb.

May 27th!!!! finally I can see the light!!

It feels GREAT, then the "oh crap now I'm supposed to be a Dr. and I don't know what I'm doing" will hit you. 😱 😀
Mine was yesterday and I completely agree with you about the whole "Oh crap now I am suppsoed to be the doctor" thing! Though it is definately nice to have the diploma finally  !

Wait, you mean a wave of smartness doesn't roll over you the moment your fingers touch the diploma? Oh crap... 😳

I've already warned all family and friends to stay out of all hospitals in July. 🙂

sorry, but your "freedom" from school is a delusion
wait till residency

yep, now you get to study during residency for your in-service exams, prepare for board exams, prepare for board re-cert (depending on specialty), keep up with new stuff-it never ends

But you are not in school anymore. You are not introduced as a "student" and you don't pay tuition.

June 11. 9 more days of rotations and I'm done. You guys are lucky to be done so early. We have rotations until the very end. Ugh, it's almost over.

What??!! Where do you go to school? That's craziness...I haven't used my brain since the end of April. I don't know if I'll be better off beginning residency or if you will.

Did ER in march as my last month and frontloaded all of my shifts to finish on March 15th. 😀

I graduated this past Sunday (may 21st).

I am constantly crapping my pants every time I think about the fact that I will be an intern in a little over a month! My knowledge is at a low I have not seen since 3rd year!! I took boards in August and have watched my knowledge go steadily downhill since then (other than PM&R, which is what my residency is in).

Any interns out there want to reassure me that my severe case of infopenia will not keep me from progressing to the pgy2 year! :scared:

My friend who is at BIDMC says her intern year is like being a glorified secretary. Puttin' in the orders. I wouldn't worry too much, especially is you are just doing a prelim med or transitional year. It will all come back to you anyway. I mean, how many different ways can you manage CHF.

That's great to hear. (Sarcasm). My worst fear is that intern year will be glorified fourth year.

Blah blah. You can tell patients "I am your doctor" and act like one -- make diagnoses, write orders, teach med students. The teaching part alone is worth the 4 am pages.

Teaching...great in theory, except I'm pretty sure my students will know more than me if my knowledge continues to deteriorate at its current rate. For heaven's sake, I won't even be able to tell them where the ORs are (as I'm guaranteed to get lost myself)! But I'm still excited...

That's okay. Today I forgot how to use CoSeal and a stent device.

LECOM Erie, PA. I don't know either. We played medical jeopardy on our rotation today. Pretty pathetic even with the option of multiple choice answers. My brain is fried. AARRRGGHHH.

Are you guys doing any reading before you start? I'm starting the actual rotation in mid July, I'm wondering if I should prepare for it now or just chill. Other intern in my class said to just relax, what are all of you doing?

I am near the finish of my Transitional Year. If I were starting intern year again, I would enjoy my summer and spend as much time with friends and family as possible. Your free time will greatly diminish with the start of intern year. You could always buy a high-yield book such as Internal Medicine On-call or On-Call Principles and protocols these are one or the other good books to have on hand while on call. But in no way would I study before intern year. I would just buy a book to have a little security. Uptodate.com is a great resource if you feel like you do not remember much (this is how I felt). When you have a patient that you have no idea what to do you can just read briefly (I stress briefly) and talk to your senior and attending that is what they are there for. I would get a resource for meds such as epocrates, etc. Other than basically getting your white coat ready to start the wards, I personally would not prepare more than that except to enjoy your time off!

May sound corny to some, but it was the happiest night of my life, and one I won't soon forget. I'm still on a high, to tell you the truth!
