Looking for some feedback...

I studied for the GRE using the ETS practice book. I was pleased with my paper practice test scores. When I took the test on the computer I was shocked when I recieved my scores. Needless to say, I am retaking--but cutting it really too close to some apps. deadlines.

I have the PowerPrep software (which now I wish I used) but my scores are still not as good as my paper based scores. I know the format of the CAT (do well on the first 1/3 of each section, etc) but does anyone ahve any thoughts on how I can have my paper score and computer scores more compatiable?

I would focus only on practicing with the Power Prep software. The paper scores from prep books were much different than how I really scored on the exam, which was very, very close to my ETS Power Prep scores. Study material from the books, but expect to score close to what you get on the Power Prep (at least if you are like me in this regard).

Take as many computer based practice tests as possible between now and your test date. It sounds like you know the material - you just need to get use to the "rhythm" of the CAT test.

I know the Princeton Review website offers a free practice exam, and I believe the Kaplan website does as well. These tests aren't great for predicting how well you'll do on the actual exam (the powerprep software is much better for that), but they're still good practice.

Good luck!

Thank you all for your thoughts. I will use Power Prep to prepare for round two!

Also, they should tell you this in the Powerprep software, but the first 10 questions are much more important than the last 10 questions. Basically, the CAT software is a branching program, so they get harder until you get one wrong, then go down and slowly zoom in your score. That means that first questions are deciding between 500 and 800, while the last questions are deciding between 700 and 730. So, when doing test taking, it's important to a greater percentage of time on those first ones and getting them right.

Of course, you want to get as many right as possible 🙂
