GRE/GPA again

Hi,

I just took my GRE exam. Got 410v, 620 q. Don't know other score yet. I have great work and volunteering experience, will have good rec. letters from famous docs. GPA? Not that great...as far as I can remember around 3.2.
Just wondering if I need to retake GRE. I know most of you would say yes, because of my verbal score. But, I am pregnant, have a child and work full time.... I don't like my verbal score at all, otherwise, wouldn't write here. Any advises, what school I should apply to? I am shooting to either 2011 or 2012. Long time from now, but I better to retake GRE now, then wait nother year and go through all this staff with 2 kids🙂 Oh forgot, English is my second language. Do you think it will fly on my statement?

TOEFL score is more important than your GRE verbal if English is your second language.

I got my BS here, so I do not need to take TOEFL.

I know people who have gotten into BU with ~430 in the verbal section. I wouldn't recommend relying on just your GREs scores to get in. I'd say the best advice would be to study hard (take more practice exams (online) and get the barron's verbal workout book) and retake them. You have a lot of time if you are applying for the next cycle.

I was accepted to UT with a 390 in Verbal. Also had a Cumalitive 3.1 GPA (2.92 at my current school).

I decided to retake it. Looking frantically for Barron's workbook. Don't want to order it through the internet, since it will take a week to get this book....Thank you everyone for your input.

haha (silly idea here.) can you study verbal with your kid and use flashcards? Your kid might end up a picking up some of those vocab words too!

The Barron's GRE word list is widely available on the internet. It's like 3,000 words with the most frequently used words bolded.

I too bombed my GRE and couldn't retake it (long story). I got a 540 on both sections. You can make up for your crappy score in other areas. Experience and great LORs are really, really important. My LORs helped me big time and they addressed my academic shortcomings by highlighting the fact that I can do statistical work very well on the computer even though I'm lacking in the math department.

Anyway, back to the GRE. It's really annoying. I was getting 700+ on the verbal when I took the practice tests. Math is another story and I anticipated a low score (learning disability). Since the first few questions are weighted most heavily and I got them wrong (they were the worst antonym questions ever), it killed my score even though I'm pretty sure I got almost all of the rest of the questions correct. So definitely try hardest on the first few questions!

The site has great (free) vocab practice and it's a good way to get used to answering questions on a computer (and with a time constraint).

Not silly🙂 I've already tried, but he doesn't have patience to sit more than 3 meaningless words🙂
