Has anyone taken the GRE online course? How is it different from the classroom? Was it more helpful taking the online course or in a classroom setting? Which one would you recommend? Also when is the best time to take the GRE for most pple? I am planning to apply next year (09), thanks!

I did not take a class... But, I did use some prep materials to study for the GRE. Before applying to vet school, I had thought about med school. I took the Kaplan MCAT class (classroom and really enjoyed it) and used most of the study and test taking skills I had learned for the GRE. If you are going to spend the money on a class, I suggest using Kalpan.

To prep myself for the GRE, I used the vocab flash cards and verbal workbook that Kaplan has. You can buy these at most book stores. I also used the study materials found on the GRE website and a great book from another company (which I cant find at the moment to tell you which one it was, it was a really think red workbook... I dont think that is going to help much. If I find it, I will post which one it was).

Also, I suggest taking the GRE twice. Studying for both times, but once to see where you stand and the other to try to raise your score. I would try to get them done this fall... I had always planned to spend months studying, but it always worked out that I only studied for 2-3 weeks. The last week I would work hard on math skills. But the bigest piece of advice I could give is to start working on your vacab. Get the 500 vocab flash cards that Kaplan puts out and get to work. Some words have multiple meanings that most are not familar with.

Good Luck :luck:

If you've got money to burn, I'd say go for it (online course). I took it myself and my score went up 200 points. Personally, it was worth the wad of cash I laid out for it. The online course is basically the same as the class course except that you do it at your own pace and you can watch the classroom lectures on your computer if you wish (if you're one of those auditory learners).

It basically teaches you how to look at and take the GRE along with relevant review aids such as vocab words, loads of practice sets for the quantitative portion, writing skill strategies for the analytic writing section, etc. It helps to get you ready for test day using "Kaplan's tried and true test-taking strategies".

If you've been out of school for a while, I think it is a great, but expensive, tool.

I guess you could find the workbooks on Ebay, etc. if money is an issue.
