So I just took my first online practice exam (Princeton Review) after ~2 weeks of studying and scored a 147 for both the verbal and quantitative sections. For those who have taken both the practice and real GREs, how similar are the two? I'm scheduled to take the real exam next week Friday on the 31st and I'm really worried that I might not meet the minimum requirement of 150.

I took the GRE practice test from the EST (the guys who make the test) and it was fairly similar. However, my actual score was slightly lower than my practice score of V-157 Q-160. Some people step up on the big test and do better though! Also, I did have a classmate tell me that she did way better on the actual exam than the practice test she took from the Princeton Review. Just do your best, you could be pleasently surprised!! Good luck!

When I took the free practice exams from EST Powerprep 2 software, I scored between 152-156, but I scored 161-163 on the actual test. I definitely recommend practicing both these exams so you get a feel for how the exam is set up, because it looks exactly the same on test day.

All the tests "felt like" the real thing so they are all useful for the practice. My scores on the two ETS exams were very close to the real exam, but my score on the Kaplan practice exam was WAY, WAY lower than my real score. I'm more than a bit suspicious that they make the practice tests so that we get a lower score so that we feel like the practice helped us. A lot of people I know do better on the real test than the practice test because we are more serious about being in testing mode in that environment. 147 is really close to 150. A few more right answers and you're past that. Look at what you missed and figure out why you missed it. Especially on the quantitative, the same type of things come up often so it's pretty easy sometimes to have a nice jump once you study something that was tripping you up. Good luck.

Hey there. I took a Kaplan practice exam w no studying.. Scored a 147 quant and a 150 verbal. During the next month, I read the official ETS book all the way through and took all the practice tests in the book along w the ones on the CD. CD was most helpful. The last few practice tests I took I plateaued around 153 quant 154 verbal.... Ended up getting a 155 on both when I took the real exam. Good luck to you!
