To my understanding, a strong nucleophile such as a grignard reagent could not possibly react in acid. The negatively charged alkyl group would quickly react with all the protons donated from the acid.

The answer should be E. But my solution manual says D. I realize the reaction would be possible if the acid was added after the grignard reacted. But the question shows the acid as the solvent.

What do you guys think?
