gs programs out san fransisco way

any advice or current news about programs in this area? i am assuming that they are pretty competitive to say the least. anyone have personal experience?

Well, perhaps i can start by spelling the darn city correctly! ugh! Make that San Francisco for the record.
 
They are all pretty strong programs. UCSF-East Bay just got a new Chair who is almost as well known as the old chair (Claude Organ replaced by Alden Harken). San Joaquin (okay its not really in the Bay Area but it's close) is a small (tiny) community program on probation but they seem to have addressed their problems. Stanford and UCSF are pretty much business as usual.
