Gupta strikes again

Apparently the principal nerves of the arm have now become "stabilizing tendons" according to the great Dr. Gupta. The brilliance starts around the 1:35 mark. 🙄

😱 Wow. That was bad.

Thinking about it more, though you gotta feel kinda sorry for the guy. I imagine he was just chilling in his office when some producer walks in and says, "Gupta, we need you on for ESPN in 2 minutes. Get your ass to makeup." And he's left making up some schtick about LeBron while they're powdering his nose. Then when he throws out the "stabilizing tendons" bit, it's gotta throw him off his game for the rest of the interview as he thinks to himself, "Mother****er! I just called a bunch of nerves tendons on national TV."

isn't he a neurosurgeon? as in a dude who operates on those "stabilizing tendons"?

At first I thought he maybe peeled away too many layers, then just blew full steam ahead for the sake of live TV.

But I'm not exactly sure how he expected to demonstrate the "stabilizing tendons" by peeling away all the muscles. They, uhhh, kind of go together.

Ligaments, maybe?

Maybe it was recorded in front of a green screen with the images added later. Kind of the way weather reports are done sometimes.

Or maybe he was drunk.

He was clicking on the screen and adding red lines. He saw the same nerves you did.

Worst part, it's not like it takes a doctor to pick up on the goof. There's kids taking junior high health that know he was pointing at nerves.

I think the problem is limitations in the computer program he was using, so it looked like he tried to improvise to show a more clear picture.

I searched really quick on google and it seemed like the program doesn't have a good setting for viewing tendons w/o muscle (as pointed out by someone above). So he probably intentionally just clicked the "nervous system tab" and used that to show the general location of "tendons" in the elbow considering the fact that the average ESPN watcher has no idea whats going on.

This was really funny! I watched about 30 seconds of it. His gaffe was pretty bad. It's pretty clear that there are nerve roots and trunks visible in the lumbar vertebrae, and I think it was obvious that the screen showed major nerves in the arm.

My guess is that he clicked on a tab, either intending it to be one demonstrating ligaments and tendons, or mistaking it as such. He briefly continued rambling about "stabilizing tendons", and then had an "oh ****!" moment. At that point, it was too late to correct his mistake, and he kept going with it.

Dumb mistake? Yep. Is it all that important? Not really. Everyone goofs up sometimes. He's a neurosurgeon, so obviously he's extremely intelligent. He just had a "brain fart", that's all. 😉

Just glad he didn't become our Surgeon General, though I have a hunch that our current family practitioner surgeon general wouldn't have done a whole lot better... 🙄
