Looks like a lot of us are in the same boat!

I'm holding on to hope for a phone call, but realistic that the sooner I reapply, the better the chances for next year. Any advice on the below would be great:

For those who are considering MCAT re-takes... are you guys reapplying with your current stats and thinking about a Sept test? I had a 27 which I'm sure didn't help my chances and with a full-time job, won't be able to fully immerse myself in studying as much as I want.

For those who are sending updates to GWU, I was told to only submit email updates. Is that how you're also submitting updates?

Any advice or similar experience would be most welcomed!

I have the same MCAT situation as you do. An adcom officer at a nearby school told me to retake no later than September 31, so I'll likely shoot for middle of August. The earlier the better. I'm hoping the studying will have paid off by then, considering I'll be essentially taking a 2 week break from it at the end of July.

I wonder if any more slots will open up.

A few questions:

1) If I haven't taken my MCAT yet, and haven't registered yet, but I do plan to take it in August.. should I go ahead and submit my AMCAS?

2) Does anyone know if I need to have my letters of recommendations in before submitting it?

3) Lastly, if I want to send a letter of recommendation to GW from a professor for mine, what do I need to do? Does he just need to write up a letter himself and send it to the school?

Thanks

Also,

What do you guys think is sort of the criteria GW looks for in their students?

Diverse? Professional?

Like.. what what be a good fit student be like?

Thanks

We can only hope! At this point I'd say it is getting late, but of all schools I would imagine GWU's waitlists is one of the last to stop moving. I say this because its big, lots of ppl use it as a backup, and its very expensive.

However, that is just speculation... I am trying to stay positive

i talked to diane last week and she pretty much said to lose hope and there seems to be no movement at all. i'm so surprised though that not too many ppl dropped out. and they put a lot of people on the waitlist....and they gave us false hope by that letter.

Thats too bad... I just sent in an update today. I really wonder if I had any realistic shot at how late I interviewed, or was it truly just to make the alternate list

i interviewed very early and got placed on their alternative list in November. i dont think timing mattered much...at least based on my case. i thought early interview means "we really like you", but i guess not at gw.

Lose hope? that's what she said? How did you talk to her?

If we had an acceptance last week... how can she say lose hope?

yup...i was shocked too. i stopped by their admission office and begged to see her. after waiting for a while, i finally got to meet her.
the only way i can justify that is that she said that based on my individual profile...

I'm working on my reapplication, but I'm not losing hope just yet.

I just outed $800 in primary apps last week 🙁

Needless to say, I have moved on but still would welcome a last second call.

does anyone know whenn they will send us official rejection letter?
im thinking about DO schools...but i dont know whats the minimum score they accept or a list og do schools in us?

I am very tempted to write GW a letter about how much more damage they create by sending such optomistic alternate letters to the people they waitlist...

Angel,

From what I understand you can be accepted up until the start of orientation which is Aug. 18. I imagine they would send rejection letters (hopefully not to anyone on here) after that point. For a list of DO schools visit the AACOM site -

Yes I'm still reading here with the hopes some of you will get in! :xf:

Toughest time of my life.

has anyone been able to speak directly with the dean of admissions? Id like to give him/her a call for some feedback even though i prolly wont end up at gwu

anybody know when does adcom meet to review the apps each week/month?

do they still do that?? i think they are done with that unless a spot becomes available. what i'm wondering about is who is the right person to send emails to? and shoudl we continue to send update letters?

btw, does anyone know anything about canadian medical schools? are they harder to get in?

From what I have heard and recall from reading in the MSAR, they are very selective by GPA, MCAT, and residence meaning you need to be pretty competitive and being a Canadian resident helps a lot. If there's one thing I've learned in this process, it's that schools like applicants that want to stay in the areas that they obtain their degree (at least for a little while). The shortage of physicians seems to reinforce this.

Submitted my AMCAS today. Kinda late I know. Now studying for MCAT and looking for alternatives.

Anyone else getting kind of anxious about their future?

I've kind of lost hope with GW but haven't lost faith yet. Still anything can happen.

Unlucky cycle for us if there were only 4 or 5 seat movements.

that's it guys!!! it's August and we're cooked, no more movement, no more acceptance....does anyone know if other schools accept students from waitlist at this point?

Unless someone drops out suddenly at the last minute, it's very unlikely. Consider this, most schools will be starting orientation and class within the next 3 weeks. A friend that I have in dental school is in his second week already. Time to definitely start thinking about applications for next year.

On that note, GW was my first secondary to be filed, and I just received a invite to interview in October (much much earlier than my invite this round, which was in March). I still have an MCAT retake date coming up soon, 9 days to be exact. So, without new scores, and simply filling out a new application, looks like GW look positively on the fact that you've been WLed prior to applying . There's hope guys, see this as an opportunity to do new things this year.

Looks like I'm switching over to this year's application thread. Best wishes to all of you 👍

When did you submit your secondary? I did mine yesterday. Too late?

And congratulations! Best of luck with the interview!

I hope that people in this thread who had EIGHT waitlists got into at least one of them.

Thanks! I believe I submitted sometime soon before 07/20ish. Don't really remember, but GW verified that they received it on 07/23. I don't think you're late at all. Considering I received an early October invite, you're looking at mid-October.

Hey guys, it's NOT over yet! At least for one of you.

I was accepted off GW's waitlist on June 16th. However, I just heard back from Temple Med (my state-school in Philly) two days ago. Thus, this morning I officially withdrew my seat at GW and attended Temples orientation.
I truly hope one of you gets a very unexpected yet highly anticipated call from GW soon! Otherwise good luck for the next cycle.

It's been real!

!

Oh no.

Well congratulations NDN! and the very best of luck to you! Thanks for letting us know.

I just hope the seat goes to whoever that deserves it the most.

Wow it's quiet in here despite the seat opening^.

Anyways.. I just got an email from GW informing me that they have closed the alternate list pool. I'm not as disappointed as I thought I would be. I guess I kind of expected it. Also, I think they have already picked a replacement for NDN's seat.

Best of luck to whoever gets it!

i got that email too....it's so weird that they had almost no movement on their alternative list this year. why is that?
im going to submit my amcas application this week. i know its very late....im also applying to do schools.
do you guys think that it is possible to hear from GW maybe the first day of classes (in case someone does not make it to gw this year or gets accepted elsewhere?)

not much as changed in my application, so im going to submit very similar application. but was wondering what you guys are doing this year? im looking for jobs...
