MD Rapper said:I agree... I think the adcom is trying as hard as they can to help us out.. unfortunately its just the logistical issues which are holding them back from accepting a lot of us. I never received one of those letters but I'm pretty sure that none of them gave a guarantee that you would be accepted.... its still just a waitlist, essentially meaning that you may get in if spots open up. Life isn't always fair... Listen.. I'm disappointed too but I think its pretty lame to childishly diss a school on an internet pre-med message board.... especially when you guys would probably be the same ones to praise the school and Dean McQuail if you got an acceptance call on Monday.
Unprofessional? Lame? Childish? And these aren't adjectives that could be used to describe what GW did to us? Wake up people! This school blatantly lied to you in a written letter, then acts like it's out of their control when "spots just aren't opening up." Yet at the same time, people who didn't get this letter are being pulled left and right from a regular waitlist. If a "professional" school sends you a letter explaining that it's "highly likely" you will be accepted, that damn well better mean that it's truly highly likely that you'll get accepted. And no, it's not just another waitlist letter. It's a letter SPECIFICALLY stating that you're almost surely going to be admitted. ALL other waitlist letters I've received (and that's a total of 11 waitlist letters over the past two years) have stated the slim possiblity of acceptance and so forth. If I'm on a regular waitlist, fine, then tell me like every other school in the country. Don't artificially make me excited about attending a school you have no plans of accepting me at. This school should be sued for what they did here.
And to the person who thinks this admissions office is being "honest" with you, stop sniffing glue. That letter was far and away the most dishonest thing I've experienced over my past two years of medical school applications. But would I take an acceptance from them if I was offered one? Yeah I would. But that's only because I'd rather be in Washington DC instead of West Virginia for the next 4 years. And I sure as hell wouldn't be praising Dean McQuail or the school for what they did to me in the admissions process.
MD rapper, if you'd like to read the letter they sent to us, I'll be happy to send you a scan of it. PM me if you do. You might see where I'm coming from if you read it.
