GWU Waiting List: A new email update

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
GW is my #1 Choice. Only allopathic school I interviewed at.

GW is my second waitlist also and my #1 choice

I just emailed Leah from GWU about their waitlist. Here's what she had to say:

The waitlist is not ranked but its pretty fluid. It changes day to day so we never have an exact number. We will probably have some movement this year, but of course if we knew how many exactly we wouldnt need a waitlist.

If there are seats available the committee re- reviews the files with all the new letters of interest and then selects members. Once selected, the students are usally called and emailed.

The interviews are looked at in compliation with the entire file. We saw you on paper and then in person. I dont know the exact breakdown because that is what makes the admissions committee confidential.

Thank you for that information! 👍

bump...CMON GWU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how does a waitlist change day to day?

AHHHHHHHHHHH! MayyyY!!!!!!!!! :runs around: AHHHH! :head explodes:

people drop off; people add credentials, publications, etc. best of luck. some of us got accepted on may 11 last year. coming up soon! 👍

Thanks for the info. Were those people who got off the list on May 11th in the high priority list or regular list?

Thanks!

i'm pretty sure we were all in the top-of-the-list category (which is what they were calling it). i know that i and two others were, at least.

im in the regular WL...🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

hey, i don't think that's so bad - the regular wl does not preclude you from getting in. if you've been staying in touch: maintaining your interest, updating your activities/grades, etc. since being waitlisted, i have a feeling that that puts you in a good position. it shows that you're truly interested in gw. on the other hand, i think it's futile to send constant letters/emails/etc at this point (some people may try to do that). honestly, if you've been silent for months and all the sudden start showering them with "omg, i love gw" letters now, it's going to look fishy. to me, that screams "let me off the waitlist, i just need to get into a medical school." with hundreds of people on the waitlist, showing consistent and well-founded interest in the school has to mean something when it comes time to select people for waitlist spots.

i'm not saying that if you haven't been in touch that you're out of luck. but, i do think that it's not the wisest to start bombarding them at this point in time. the window of opportunity for that has sort of passed. best of luck - keep your chin up. class doesn't start till late august - that's almost 4 months of time in which you could be accepted.

Goodluck everyone 😀

for those of you on the regular waitlist how did you know you were on the regular waitlist as opposed to high priority, when i called they said they didnt disclose that info.

I think it mentions it in the e-mail they sent us about a month ago.

anyone know how large the high priority "pool" is?

can anyone copy and paste what this years "high priority waitlist" email looks like. mine doesnt specify and nobody i've asked seems to be on the high priority anything for this year.

i second this..i find it hard to believe only one person on sdn got the high priority email...

It is very small. I'm not in it, but I asked about it and was told it is extremely small. I was also told there is still a chance for those who are on the regular alternate list.

I wish there was a little more info about our spots on the waitlist. It's just a big unknown.

On my other waitlist, I actually have a number and can call and check in on how much movement there has been.

when i called they said that the high priority info was only known by the admissions committee and would not be disclosed. so even if it exists we have no way of knowing if we're on it or not, thats what the admissions office told me. where did you get your info?

i think what admissions was saying was that they are not going to reveal any info to people calling on the phone. the people who get the higher status DO know. they get a slightly different letter than you guys and they are asked to reply to admissions about staying on the list or not earlier than you guys are asked to (last year it was april 15 vs may 15). it exists, and it is exceedingly small, so i'm not surprised that no one on sdn has gotten it this year. you have to realize that there are probably hundreds of people on the waitlist and, what, maybe about 15 or so on sdn? in any case, don't fret over the classifications. it's not the end of the world. good luck.

(sigh) still no update. May 15th is next week!! yikes.

I thought this thread definitely needed a bump. Just to update a few of you who might not have known, I saw that someone on the "regular" waitlist got accepted on Tuesday who posted on another thread.

I just got a call this morning from the office to tell me that I am accepted!
I wasn't on the "mysterious" high priority list.

I really really wish you guys good luck!!

congrats! do you have more than one acceptance?

I interviewed ages ago (October?)

Yea, I kept emailing them to tell them that I am interested and stuff. I think a honest and sincere letter can't hurt.

I just received a call this morning as well! Yay super excited🙂 Good luck to everyone out there who's waiting on good news!

congratualtions...really...this is a huge achievement.

were you in the high priority list? did you do anything unique/special/fantastic since you were waitlisted? anything that made you stand out? thanks

Wow, seems like there's some good movement this year. I hope you all will be getting some good news soon! 🙂

wow congrats everyone who got in. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the waitlist continues to move!

for me too!!

I'm with you guys!

Been a bit behind with SDN (sometimes it's just too much for the nerves to handle) but GW is definitely the one I'd love to get into off of the waitlist. I too interviewed early (October as well) and got waitlisted. I've got my phone on me at all times (both my European one and my US based phone) and I'm checking my e-mail damn near nonstop!

Best of luck everyone!

no news. i feel that most of the waitlist movement has occured already. just from looking at this year and previous years and when they got notification. it was usually before may 15.

yeah, let's hope that's not the case though. I saw in the past years a few people getting off in the middle of the summer...

I almost want to call the admin office to try and squeeze some info out of them. I am sure I will get some generic answer...
