Can I be in the "WE" too?? I'm going to be 26 in june and coming up on my 3rd application cycle - unless one of my 3 WL's come thru. I'm really really hoping GWU be the one.

hey Lub, what other schools are you waiting on?

bumping in hopes for some May 15 action...

GWU - interviewed Dec 1 - WL Jan 1
EVMS - interviewed Feb 22 - WL in March
Temple - interviewed March 7 - WL in April

This is my second application cycle, I'm really really really hoping one of these schools will come through.

Well, I passed on my waitlist spot for GWU because I got accepted at another school.
Good luck to all!

im waiting on EVMS also..are u VA resident? good luck :luck:

Although tomorrow is the 15th, i feel like it will be sort of anti-climactic. Will there really be tons of people taken off this list tomorrow? probably not.

I agree with you flyfisher, but at least I don't have to sit around knowing for certain that nothing will happen. Now at least I can allow myself a little bit of optimism in the mornings.

Yep VA resident, I also had an interview at MCV this year but got the boot when the WL was formed. Last year I was WL till the end at MCV, but I'm glad at least they didn't string me along this year. Gotta give em respect for that.

I'm on middle third on EVMS, same place I was last year...arggghhhh...I know of a guy, about three years or so ago, who got in off of the bottom tier WL at evms. Times are changing it seems, it's getting ultra-competitive.

🙁 ...BUMP

Yeah, I didn't hear anything today neither...sigh....maybe tomorow or some other day....until then, all I can do is wait obsessively by the phone...

Ring, damn phone, ring!

maybe it will begin by the end of this week...

i am not even near my phone cause i dont think its going to ring. its funny, yesterday, i didnt even care about getting in and then i came on this site and all of a sudden i started freaking. I am thinking that its going to be later this week that people are going to get phone calls. they have to compile their lists, compare what other schools you have offers from and so on, and then rank. so i would say, dont worry, chill out, have a beer.

trust me, i have 5 waitlists, no acceptances, its a rough time

So no one else from SDN has gotten off the waitlist except medstylee and waitman? Sigh...when's all of this movement going to happen then? 🙁

I don't mean to intrude, but Spider-Man is a real life buddy so I feel like I can reply on his behalf. He was a top priority waitlister...reapplicant! Woohoo! 👍

nice! congrats! let us know what you decide. 👍

:luck: I'm sure some waitlisters will be happy to know I'm going to stay with Temple, but it was really hard not to take GW up on the opportunity. Best of luck to everyone, there is at least one more spot open. 👍

I almost posted on the WashU waitlist thread as it was on top of the page when SDN loaded up and it looked a lot like GWashU.

Does anyone know of anyone who has gotten off the Normal Waitlist at GW?

Hmm, I wonder what's on your mind lately?

And no, I haven't heard of anyone on the regular list getting in. Yet. 🙂

Here is to hoping that we all have more luck today!!!

Hey everyone,

I was accepted to GW University School of Medicine yesterday. However, I am really concerned about the cost of living/tuition cost at GW. I wanted to find out what you guys thought about it. I will really appreciate it if anyone can give me some advice regarding the $260,000 - $280,000 worth of debt that I will have if I decide to go to GW. Thank you very much.

I found this site to be somewhat helpful: www.FINAid.org/calculators

I haven't been accepted (yet), but I was just playing around with some numbers and apparently with $250,000 in debt at 6.8%, they suggest that to repay your loan in 15 years, you would need an annual income of about $200,000. A lot of doctors don't make that much, so this is a little scary to me.

GW is an awesome school (congrats on your acceptance, btw) but it is also the second most expensive one overall in the country, with Tufts being the most expensive. What other school are you deciding between?

Hey waitlisters! It looks like only people on the high priority list have gotten in so far. Is there anyone who is on the high priority list here who HAS NOT gotten a phone call yet? (I'm a regular waitlister and really hoping for the best...) Good luck today guys! :luck:

I think the most expensive school stigma is blown out of proportion alittle bit, if you don't take state schools into account, the difference in cost between the most expensive and the cheapest schools aren't that much, maybe 10%. I think you get more for your money too, after seeing tufts/gw versus schools like rush and RFU that aren't quite as nice.

The doc i work with said that he worked three hours a week at a free clinic and made $1000 or so a month and he payed off his loans with that until he got out of residency and was making real money.

I got off the waitlist yesterday and have about one hour left to decide. I'm most likely going to be staying at my other school, but good luck to everyone else. =)

Heh, you're welcome. And it's Stony Brook. Still waitlisted at Columbia though. *le sigh*

Cost is a real factor, especially with the increased interest rates.
I wouldn't be quick to mock anyone for being a little concerned about the cost.

I am a graduating senior at GW Med, and our class was a lucky group that enjoyed interest rates as low as 2.75%. Not all of us have loans, but among those that do, most graduating seniors will be leaving school with loans having been consolidated at a lower rate and will be paying 3.75% or 4.25% at most.

The incoming class of 2010 will be fixed at 6.25% or something in that range. (Not by GW, but govt stafford loan legislation). The difference between 2.75% and 6% is huge.

GWU is a fantastic school. Attending GWU Med School, you can match to virtually any residency at virtually any hospital, including the most prestigious places. However, like many other medical schools, it is a private school in an expensive city.

Cost should not be a deterrent in choosing to attend med school, but you should plan your budget strategically and be fully aware of what your finances will look like upon graduating so that you have no surprises.

Stonybrook...ooo in-state tuition sounds nice! Good luck with your correspondence with Dean Frantz at Columbia as well. I hear he's the key to getting in!!

Umm, I'm not sure. What other waitlist was there? But yeah, I got a call on Tuesday but I was busy graduating, so the director of admissions called again on Wednesday.

The waitlist letter package indicated whether you were at the top of the waitlist. If you were then you had to submit your letter of interest by an earlier date than the rest. To my knowledge they have only accepted these top priority waitlisters only... sigh.

...sigh... So begins another day of waiting...
