Figure that some positivity would help inspire people here, and help us to see the forest past the trees.

What's been the happiest or most fulfilling moment in your life so far? Doesn't necessarily have to pertain to medicine.

Here is my take on the happiest and most fulfilling events of my short life, in order:

1. Knowing Jesus (The reason for everything else below).
2. 14+ weeks of mission trips in Latin America over the past 4 years and actively making a positive difference in the lives of the poor and under-served (way more fulfilling than the rest of the stuff below).

3. Getting an acceptance to the medical school of my dreams
4. Winning the most outstanding graduating undergrad award from my college of 30,000+ students.
5. Also winning my university's award for most outstanding service to the health profession community.
6. Getting offered an acceptance and a scholarship at a top 20 medical school (I am not going there, however)

My life has been pretty good so far, and I am thankful to be able to count so many positive things in my life. Number 1 and 2 happened first, and numbers 3-6 happened in the last few months. So don't worry if you can't see light through the tunnel. Just keep pressing on towards the goal and you will get there.

"I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us." -Philippians 3:12-15

Getting an extra Kitkat for free from the vending machine by accident.
I was going to say bringing my firstborn home from the hospital but this ^ reminded me of the time I got a dark chocolate Hershey with almonds and my 5 quarters back from the vending machine. Good times.

Getting married, and becoming a dad.

When I came home from work one day, having my 1.5 year old son run to greet me, yelling "Dada! Dada! Dada!"

Getting published for the first time.

Landing my Faculty job.

Making full Professor.

when I was young: being at home one evening when both my parents were there for the rarest time and the weather was just perfect with the night creeping in but still mellowing with the sun. Electricity was gone so I was just staring out at the backyard with the quietness being pervaded by the crickets and the sound of neighborhood kids playing outside. The breeze was flowing through my head and I was content with the few but meaningful things I had.

I would have to say the birth of my son was the #1 happiest moment in my life. Number two I probably didn't realize at the time, but was a summer day I spent with my grandpa before he passed away (I didn't have a father growing up so I spent 90% of my time with grandpa while my mom worked).

Honestly, a meal at red lobsters would make me shoot for the moon.

College budgeting is a nightmare.

For me, it was when I was staring at the stars hanging in the night sky in Panama. There was just this overwhelming peace I felt because in that moment, the world fell away and I could reflect on the life I had lived up until that point, and came to the conclusion that I am my own person. I came away with a greater sense of purpose and self-awareness.

Helping someone and seeing a sense of contentment and gratification on their faces. While achievements & relationships certainly makes me happy the joy of being a valuable asset to the society & humanity knows no bounds.

I feel like you (CRTL+C/CRTL+V)'d this straight from your app

1. Getting to tell my parents that they didn't have to pay for my undergraduate education because of scholarships I received.
2. Becoming a U.S. Citizen. (Cried at the ceremony, and they say us bleeding heart liberals just want to see the country burn)
3. Moving to the U.S.
4. Getting my prosthetic and being treated like a normal person for the first time in my life. (I won't tell you which body part is missing tho 😉 )
5. Getting into a college I didn't think I had a shot at.

Gonna bump this with another one of mine: finally figuring out a way to relax and shut my brain off for a few hours (cigars aren't that bad in moderation)

Solid thread, glad @Strigon bumped it.

Waking up every morning and realizing I am truly blessed to have a life that too many people in the world can never experience. Keeps medicine & mundane pressures in perspective.

Also the time when I discovered that Amazon recognizes Discover Cashback.

Most of my days are pretty extraordinary, but I think the day I earned my Pilots license was especially fantastic.

If you don't mind sharing, I am very curious to know why not?

When I found out it was a bruised vertebrae in my neck and not a broken one after a car crash. Difference between being in a cast for a month and life potentially being in danger.

Life perspective and realizing what actually matters tend to change and become a lot clearer after something like this

Yours ones are so much like mine! I had all of those experiences (except, I did not cry at the ceremony and no prosthetic) :highfive:
