Happiness Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
+1! Just went before work this morning for the first time in weeks and it made me feel awesome.

Also, I love this thread. Good to see some happy SDNers once in a while!

I'm happy that I finally got over the flu, and that we're getting closer and closer to the end of this of this app cycle. It'll be nice to have time to think about other things for a change, no matter how the cookie crumbles come March.

Also happy for my brand new winter coat I got around Christmastime, because DAMN it is cold outside in the city today!

Congrats on getting over the flu! It must feel great. Were you vaccinated?

I am happy that the CDC may again be able to conduct and support gun related research. I am also glad to be healthy (I did spend New Year's with a nasty cold) and that it is sunny today.

I'm Happy. I married my best friend this past year. Was also accepted to two schools I am very excited to attend. You can say life is good.

Did have have breakfast this morning? Could you have breakfast if you wanted to? Did you sleep inside or outside last night?

No. And I slept outside. It says post doc by my name but I'm actually homeless. Post all my stuff from the apple store, before they throw me out

Well there you go, you can be happy you have a warm Apple store near by where you can browse the electronics. 😀

But I'm homeless by choice so i can write a good personal statement.

And there is happy thought number 2, lol. Number 3 is that I'll buy you a meal if I ever run into you.

I'm happy that my best friend is having a little girl (even though I think he's way too young!). It made me realize that I had been so focused on the MCAT and this upcoming cycle, that I had completely forgotten about the more important things in life. Kind of a nice reality check.

I get to leave my part-time, barely above minimum wage manual labor job for a full time, better paid manual labor job. That's something, I guess.

Oh, and I'll be done studying for the god-awful MCAT in about 3 more months. 👍

😀 this is awesome. having a supportive partner with your through this process is priceless. my boyfriend has definitely pulled me through some rough spots! mazel tov to you and your best friend/spouse, what a great way to start your life and career!

Thank you, just going through the application process with her has made it that much less stressful.

Is she applying also? Or just acting as cheerleader?

No, she is a nurse and plans on going back to grad school to become a CRNA. Just thought of another thing to be happy about...I have a sugar mamma 😛.

My sister is getting married this summer
Going on one last family vacation before then and starting med school

Me toooo! It makes everything better.

I'm also happy for my 7-month-old niece, who is THE CUTEST baby in the world, and who is already a rockstar at google chat. I'm happy for my two cats, the cross-eyed overweight one and the skinny whiny-pants one. I'm happy for the superbowl, even if it is the stupid 49ers against the stupid ravens. I'm happy that the days are getting longer -- it's a sunny one here in NYC! 😀

So often on the SDN pre-Allo forum I read threads that are about how worried people are, how things are going wrong and they don't know how to fix those wrong things, or else people being Super Duper Neurotic.

I was thinking we could have a Happy Thread - a thread about how things are going okay, about how progress is being made. Not a, "Let me tell you how awesome I am, you peons" thread, but a general encouragement thread. We're going to be okay! Life is an interesting place full of interesting things!

I'll start: I'm starting a new job on campus as a TA, and I really like my boss and all of my coworkers, one of whom I first met when we were both at the same community college. I am excited to learn how to be a teacher! I survived last semester despite my ongoing (and seemingly never-ending) health problems, and in fact got a 3.6 average! And my gen chem II professor is supposed to be better than my gen chem I professor, which is encouraging since I got a B+ in that class last fall.

Also it is sunny and warm in California, and the hummingbirds are back!

What is good in your life, SDNers? What are you looking forward to this fall? What has you excited and energized for the future?

the weather is great right now in Cali 😀

also thank you for this thread, there needs to be more positivity around here 😉

Yes, it is important to keep your life in balance. I think I'll post something good in here every day so I do not allow my thoughts to stay on the negative side of the spectrum.

I agree that this thread is great 😀. As for me, I'm super grateful for my SO as well and the fact that he's been willing to basically put his life on hold until I figure out where I'm going next year (and relocate with me if it's necessary). Also really happy about how my cycle is going so far and happy it's approaching its end. Can't wait to be in school again!

haha I also have a "cross-eyed overweight" cat and a "skinny whiny-pants" one too! I'm thankful for my wonderful family and friends, who have kept me sane post-breakup, for my grandma who is watching over me in heaven and making sure I get into a great medical school, for food to eat and clothes to wear, and for the chance to become a doctor!

OMGsh, did your cross-eyed overweight cat also have a perineal urethrostomy? #samecat?? :ninja: 😍

I understand these weren't meant to be connected in any way, but these two sentences back to back just seemed so random.

I always feel like I use too many spaces in my online posts for short sentences. I guess I should keep doing that though.

Life is pretty good. Today I'm 3 weeks into keeping my resolution to run 4 times a week and that feels good. Also a month ago at the free clinic I've volunteered at for almost 3 years, someone just walked up and offered me a paid job. Didn't even have to apply. So now I actually have a way to fund my existence over the summer before med school financial aid kicks in.

Awesome!

I'm happy because I know what direction I'm heading into in the near future. Some people I know don't know what they wanna do at a pretty old age, I've been researching for a while and feel prepared. Especially after discovering SDN. I feel... Good.

My life is pretty good. Got into medical school, updated my computer, got a $5 an hour raise for graduating, my job title changed from TA to instructor, changed my car insurance to save me about $500 a year, got a copy of Netter's today, and had a day off of work yesterday.

Pretty good day.

Plus, I just read this story:

haha nope. He's not really cross-eyed, but he looks kind of derpy and we make fun of his cross-eyedness when he sees something he likes. Too bad he eats a lot and gained a lot of weight recently.

I'm happy because I have more confidence in my abilities and that I am starting to break my bad habits as a result. 🙂 Also I have three days when my classes don't start until 9AM C:

That's beautiful. You are blessed. 😍

Yea I got in, now all I gotta do is pass Spanish hehe. U mirin'?

Gotta get back to the gym tho, skipped a lot of days for interviews, and now I'm gettin lazy.

Today I'm glad that I had the opportunity to speak with a very helpful medical student from one of the schools that I really want to attend.

I also realized that in about 14 weeks I will have my degree. 😀

It has only been about an 11 😱 year journey.

I'm happy because I'm finally figuring out my best ways to study that are the most effective for me so i can study in half the time and still learn the same amount of material.

I'm happy because I started a massive pool of info with about 20 of my classmates on google docs for one of my upper division bio classes. We are all pulling our weight and adding in information so we have a ton of great information and it has made some great bonds between all of us as well as created a great support system.

I'm also happy because my boss told me he understands that I cannot work as much as I used to, that he's proud of me, and to just request whatever shift I want (if any) and that I will have them.

Lastly, I'm happy because one of my professors just told me that if I ever have any problems with content in any of my classes and if I want to stop by his office at any time I can teach him what I'm learning because teaching can help me.

🙂 so yes, this is a happy quarter indeed

Quit my job as a scribe for normal hours and better pay as a bank teller. Time to exercise. Married my best friend ever, paid off my car and living life to the fullest! About time things are coming around, I am almost freaking 30.

I am enamored by the positivity in here. I catch myself many times dwelling on the negativities. So it is great to hear everyone espouse their big/small joys in life. 🙂

Well for me, right off the bat, I'm very happy to currently have a lot of support around me at work, school and with family. Hell I had a good friends aunt give me $1,000 dollars out of the blue recently (barely know her!). I was given a brand new laptop recently from my SO who inherited a large sum of money from some auntie.(after my very old laptop just crapped out on me) sugar mama 😎

I have a really good shot at landing some research experience this summer at UMich($5,000 stipend). (connections)

Oh and I'm getting my butt back into the gym tonite....

Today I am happy that I am finally getting over my sinus infection.

I feel like I am all caught up with school work, even though I had to miss a couple days when I was sick.

The application season is starting to wrap up, so decisions will all be more forthcoming.

But seriously, it feels so good to be able to breath out my nose. 😀

I'm excited that the Texas match is only days away! And all the adorable kids in my youth flag football league make me smile.

I'm so glad that I got to see The Punch Brothers at the Granada Theater in Dallas this Sunday with my girlfriend. Neither of us had seen them live and we were blown away by how good they were and how much fun the band had on stage while they played. I'm grateful I got to experience that with her! 😀

I'm happy that I got tickets to see Book of Mormon--a bit on the pricey side but I've heard it's fantastic!!!

my day sucked as usual. tired, want to go to sleep, but I can't because i have to study. 10 more years of this?

starting to think about dropping a premed track and just becoming an engineer....

Still have no news from many schools but physically I feel really good today. Signing up for weight lifting was a great idea.

I finally figured out the data analysis portion of my senior thesis and my classes for this (final) semester seem to be pretty easy thus far.

I finally got some news from a school after no news for 5 months. Its not the best news but at this point wait list is good news.

The awesome feeling of getting into med school hasn't worn off yet! I don't think it will until I start med school and go from 😛 to:scared: haha.

Plus, I have a vacation coming up and my boyfriend is coming to visit! 😀😀

😍 I love this thread!

My college got a two hour delay! 😀 All 10:00am classes started on time.

That means I got to skip my 8:00am class! 😀 It was a great relief when I checked my phone at 6am after going to bed at midnight.

After months of crazy hours at work, things are finally winding down... and I'm gonna start cooking again instead of eating pre-made food! As much as I love everything from Trader Joe's... it's time to make some curry. And shepherd's pie. And spaghetti. I can't wait. 😀

Reviving this --

Happy that I really enjoy my new job as a biology tutor at college. Beats the heck out of flipping burgers!

Happy that I lined up a job on campus in a professor's lab this summer, so that I don't have to leave home and my puppydog. Also I get to play with microbial ecology!!! which is just about my favorite thing.

Happy that we have a beekeeper who is willing to take the bees that have taken up residence in my bedroom window.

how about the rest of you guys??
