it was writing in damn cursive...it took me so long to write that statement... why do they have cursive? is it to compare handwriting in case somethin shady goes down? either way...writing that statement in cursive was way challenging hahaha 😛

Haha I remember struggling to remember how to write capital letters.

i certainly did not write it in cursive (in april or august) i made a few letters pretty and loopy and swirly and stuff but no cursive. i felt that i should conserve brain energy for the test.

I did not write it in cursive at all. That is dumb. I haven't written cursive since I learned it in 3rd grade. Which was over 20 years ago.

Yea, i didn't write in cursive either. What, like i'm gonna waste any mental energy on an unscored part of the test? I don't think so. 🙄

no cursive for me either. i don't think i remember how to do it anyway so it wasn't even an issue for me.

Yeah I didn't see anything about cursive either. I wasn't paying attention to it though. Cursive sucks. I also didn't give my right thumbprint, I gave my left. The people at my center didn't tell us which one and I didn't read the instructions until later. But I did left because I looked around and saw other people doing left. So I guess if I get a 45 and they have to check my thumbprint I'm screwed.

Oh no, I didn't write it in cursive!! Should I have?

Has anybody else written the statement in print and had a problem?
😱

i don't remember any directions about writing in cursive -- all i remember is that the writing should be legible, in black ink, and in english. if i missed it, i guess i'm screwed because i printed my essay. i haven't written an essay in cursive in so long that my handwriting would be seriously illegible. honestly, i think it's easier to write in cursive than in print; unfortunately, my cursive handwriting sucks.

i wish we could type the thing. i have a slightly screwed up wrist that makes handwriting fairly painful for me if i do it for long enough.

I havent taken the mcat yet...But I personally think theyre ******ed for telling us how we should write. Writing in cursive doesnt prove anything for medschool. The only reason I think they even told you to write in cursive is becuase it would SLOW YOU DOWN. I think that is as low as they can get considering that writing in cursive doesnt show how good of a doctor you will be. They also know many of us dont write cursive as well, maybe they should make that a requirement for the mcat. In fact, I could bet you that if all of us did write in cursive on that test, it would be alot more harder to read, thus resulting in a slightly lower grade. I know they dont judge your paper by your handwriting but if they cant read your handwriting(cursive) then your bound to get a lower grade. So in conclusion, if they want to screw you over on the test, they should do it through difficult material and not through irrelevant demands.

It just amazes me seeing as how we have very bright and intellectual people sitting on the AAMC board for test making and they would demand something so irrelevant.

The cursive wasn't for the essay, it was for the certification statement at the beginning of the test that you had to copy and sign.

And mine had a cursive/print mix. That's just how I write.

Arrrr
sir drake wrote in print
with a dagger and blood of a wild goat

(i dont think it matters - as long as its legible i guess they think print - scratch and saying cursive will make u spend time making it legible)

whoa whoa whoa people...dont freak out it was just a joke about how we had to write some statement saying we were who we said we were in cursive....our proctor said please use cursive...dont trip out everyone i just thought it would be funny making a joke

everyone needs to calm down

Just to clear this up for some people, the conversation (as far as I know) is not about the Writing Sample. It is about the little blurb we had to copy and sign at the very beginning of the test just saying who we are. And it probably doesn't matter.

I remember having to write a statement like that for the SAT and it had to be in cursive.

Nowhere in the directions did it say that it had to be in cursive though - so mine is all print.

The directions for the statement do not say to write in cursive. They say to write in longhand.

i'm with you. i don't remember ANYTHING about writing in cursive.

If you write in cursive, they can tell if you're lying. You can't tell if I am, because I'm typing.

i had so much trouble with that damn cursive thing. I started writing on the second line that was given, ended up running out of space, had to erase the whole thing and then start back up on the top line. The people next to me just started laughing 🙂

I thought I was the only one that stopped using cursive after grade school!

I'm such a gunner, I practiced for months ahead of time on my cursive. I attended my little bro's 3rd grade class to polish up.

Actually, I'm such a *******, I read the word "longhand" on the test and wondered what the hell it meant.
