3. Yes, I wasn't impressed. I pretty much don't like comedy movies because they have a horrible plot. It had its moments (blowing up the whale), but overall a dissapointment. I went with 3 other people and there was a total of 8 people in the theatre. They probably set a record low for gross $.

As to the other message thing, it's going to take somebody who got the "good message" to receive a rejection letter to convince me. Everything has supported this theory so far.

That's disappointing, I need a good laugh. I also agree with you about the bad message thing...what was the lady at the office suppose to say, "Oh, even though we made it so no one could log in, you figured out there were different messages? Our bad!"

Three new questions:

1. Anyone else married?

2. Last non-school related book you read?

3. Anyone seen Reno 911!: Miami?

Not married, but in the middle of a 3+ year relationship

In between school readings I've been trying to finish LOR The Two Towers

I can't remember the last movie I went to see. Maybe Borat? I did enjoy watching Reno 911! on commedy central, so I'll probably see the movie at some point.

Three new questions:
1) Last concert you went to see.

2) Fan of spring snow?

3) What you probably should be doing instead of stalking this thread on a Sunday 😉

1) Last concert you went to see.
A concert at our school before Christmas called Greetings from Russia or something. We had plenty of music by Rachmaninoff and other late Romantics/early Modernists.

2) Fan of spring snow?
No, cuz I'm the idiot waiting at the bus stop that always change into T-shirts two weeks too early.

3) What you probably should be doing instead of stalking this thread on a Sunday?
Urg...I do have a 8-page English paper to complete *nervous giggle*

Three new questions:
1) What kind of ppl do you hate?
2) Chicken dance or strip poker?
3) Favourite alcholic beverage?

1. people i hate: fat people, including self when fat.

2. strip poker 😀

3. girly drinks 😛 extra juice, please! (also, because i have the tolerance of a two year old.)

three more questions:

1. your best friend's worst habit. 😉
2. best trait about someone you hate.
3. most adventurous place thing you did (will do) over spring break!

Other topics until the letters come:

Who likes Nintendo Wii?

How about any former crosscountry runners?

Did anyone like the new movie 300?

Sundays...😀

OMG, I LOVED 300! Saw it for the 3rd time yesterday. I think someone else already mentioned it, but it's an awesome way to kill time and to be inspired to go to the gym. It's gloriously gorey and visually stunning. Any other ladies out there that've seen 3x (or more) like me? How about U boys? 😀

I saw the first 20 minutes and then walked out. Just couldn't bear to see my ancestors getting continually insulted and slaughtered.

Last concert: Pet Shop Boys. It was awesome!

Snow? What in TX? No way Jose.

And I should probably be doing my Finaid stuff right now instead making stupid posts on this thread.

thought sundays were safe? not if you live in a dorm with crappy mail.

rejected in cambridge, log-in failed. not even a real signature.

I'm sorry to hear that. You were one who made us hope login-failed people might still have a chance. I also got login failed on Wednesday night, so I feel hopeless.

So, do we have a consensus that rejections went out Friday as regular mail and acceptances will go out tomorrow as priority mail? If so, I should receive a rejection on Tuesday, and everyone should get a letter by Wednesday one way or the other.

Sorry to hear that. But hey, Dartmouth is a wicked school from what I've heard!
And I hope you get some really nice news from Penn and Stanford😍

The official casualty count has gone up to 5 by my reckoning:scared:

just curious because i am an undergrad...what are some of ur gpa's mcats' etc for med school since you are applying to harvard?

Just a gut feeling, but I think this is a bad time to ask that question😛

I second pyrois😀
You can always go to MDapplicants.com for this kind of info😉

Typically, Harvard looks at students beyond just MCAT and GPA. Letters of recommendation and pertinent life events are substantially reviewed.

Average MCATs are 12, 11, 12, R and GPA is like 3.8. But of all of my interviews, Harvard interviewers knew my application well and clearly appreciated the depth of who I was, so ultimately, just don't worry about just MCAT/GPA and focus more on gaining a lot of support from professionals who can comment on you substantially. Also, take on responsibilities that you care about! It doesn't hurt to have more than one major or at least a minor in humanities...

i don't know if anyone noticed but they closed the financial aid log in page!!! i bet they figured out that it was telling people if they got accepted or rejected

To everyone who gets in, CONGRATS!
To everyone who doesn't, don't worry, it's not the end of the world and you will all be amazing doctors i'm sure! 🙂

FOR REALS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Lol, a little after the fact, dentalgrl 🙂

Anyway, I'm so pissed that I didn't check SDN until after the financial aid page was closed. At least you all have an idea what your response is :/ :/ :/ Last night I even tried using google's cached version of the page (which was still the original login page), but after entering my login info it still just redirected me to the "financial aid site closed" page. ARGHH! I thought I was being so clever too!! haha.

Just my own experience, but my faculty interviewer hadn't even glanced through my file once before I came in to speak with him. Basically just sat and read the whole time, w/ inane questions once in a while...frustrating. My student interviewer, however, knew my file quite well.

Can anyone tell me once again what the good and bad fin aid messages are? I checked it out before the site closed and I got a couple messages.

I think this is what happened, but I don't remember for sure...Damn memory
First I entered my AAMC ID instead of SS# and got a login failed message. Then I entered my SS# and got something about contacting the fin aid office.
Then I tried to get my pin emailed to me, but I have not received anything.

Wow, I wish I could remember for sure...

Well there is no sure thing that the message meant anything but I was reading the site when these people were waiting anxiously and this is what I gathered......

If it said login failed after doing things correctly, they felt it might mean a rejection. If it gave the contact message they felt that might mean a possiblity of waitlist or acceptance. there is no sure proof of this though last year's hms thread had the same sort of deal.

Ha! I was just responding when you beat me to it.

BTW I didn't apply but since I'm in this thread rooting for you guys I'm going to play your 3 question game cuz its amusing.. Good luck you all!!! :luck: :luck:

hey guju doc, so do you know what last year's thread said about that financial aid thing? it might help us understand if that "good message" is really good or if it just doesn't matter

Wow, this thread is way too addicting. I need something to do for the next several days...

1. I don't know...give me one and I'll tell you😉.

2. I run marathons (so a fellow long-distance runner).

3. My husband went and he loved it. I'll eventually see it.

*I don't know a think about football*

3. Anyone seen Reno 911!: Miami?

Never seen that reno miami thing and not married. Last non school book was A hero with a 1000 faces by Joseph Campbell though I'm still working on that one. Besides that the last serious novel not related to school was Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code.

I'll pull up the thread but there wasn't much. However, I think it was sort of hinted at it being an indicator of whether you were rejected or not. That's the impression I got. i'll look them up for you if you want.

This was the post by chocolatekiss. They said that only accepted or current students could access the fin. aid page.

Now this is just wishful thinking on my part, but could it be that all applicants who put in their AMCAS ID got the "login failed" message while all those who put in their SS# got the "contact" message?

I put in my AMCAS ID and got the login failed message. Did those of you who got the contact message put in your SS#?

Perhaps applicants got different messages based solely on what they entered (AMCAS ID or SS#) and not on their admission status (accepted/rejected).

I believe that most ppl put in both, SSN as login ID and AMCAS # as PIN. Then 2 msgs are possible: login failed or contact financial aid office.

apparently last year there was a debate on the ethics of using the fin. aid page to find out your status. Someone on last year's HMS thread was arguing that it was unethical.

Yeah, I found it quite amusing.
Personally, I don't see anything unethical about us using their loophole to end this tormenting wait and start on the lengthy financial aid forms slightly sooner. We aren't doing anything illegal (like hacking into the system) or gaining an unfair advantage over anyone else.

Lol! I feel stupid. :d Sorry, I had checked the login page only once several days before it closed and had forgotten that I entered both. Wow, I guess I'm just really reaching for some kinda hope now huh? Thanx for clearing it up though omega😀.

1) no (but in a relationship)

2) Wildfire by Nelson DeMille (2 thumbs up)

3) yes and I loved it (my kind of humor)

Sorry to tell you buddy, but you got the bad message. If it was the good message you would have had your AMCAS ID emailed to you and had gotten the contact the office message when you'd entered both SS# and AMCAS ID.

I can't wait to get my letter! Of course, I got the login failed message, but still, it will be cool to finally get the letter. So much anticipation!!

I think I will end up doing MD/PhD at my state school. Ultimately, I will be more clinical in scope after I finish both degrees, and probably not in the lab full time. 🙄

Just so I am clear- is t0mmy85 the only one that received the "bad message" but did not get a rejection (and lives in Boston)?

t0mmy85- do you live in a dorm (where the mail may be slow)?

Melissa, I do live in a dorm. However, I spoke to a friend who works in the superintendent's office, and he told me that the Saturday mail had been sorted (and on Saturday afternoon I did get a skinny white envelope with an offer to consolidate student loans). I also checked my mail as recently as 9pm tonight.

:luck: Good luck this week. One way or another, this will all be over soon. :luck:

not true: i live in the boston/cambridge, got the "bad message", and didn't get anything yesterday.

but this could just be a slow/delayed piece of mail, maybe from the snow. we'll see tomorrow.

HAHA are you serious??? I am thoroughly amused. Seriously, there are more important ethical questions in life to debate about... 🙄

Prediction: this thread will explode by tomorrow.

Prediction: this thread will explode by tomorrow.
i still think the first acceptances will be received on wednesday (when the fin aid website will be up and running)--ie, the first good letters will go out tomorrow. so---probably page 18? although Hednej, if the threat explodes tomorrow, then page 19...

its been a long relaxing spring break....

and then I come back to all this talk of finaid page status checks and an email from the admissions office about the letters being sent by tomorrow. no rejection letter yet...

So as more time passes (with no rejection letter), are the chances for acceptance greater???

hey quantum! 🙂 i hope you had a good break! yup, your chances go up proportional to X/(Y-n).

We are repeating last year's thread and oh so self-aware of it 😀

Who here read the entire thread from last year? *me raising hand*

History repeats itself.

And in one year's time, people will be saying the same exact thing😛 I should become an existentialist.

Can anyone else feel the impending doom of "The Perfect Storm?"

Does anybody else watch 24?!?!! (trying to help pass time.... snail mail will take what - 2 weeks to get down to texas?)

In response to your 3 questions....

I hate or rather should be pc and say dislike people who act too stupid to figure out the simplest of things that require common sense and get too dependent on others. I.e. it doesn't take much to do an internet search and find out what the difference b/w DO and MD schools are or to figure out that the way to get some premed opportunity like shadowing or volunteering requires taking initiative to call hospitals and find out the info for yourself. Yet, some premeds are tooo damned dependent on others to the point of asking the stupidest questions. I also dislike people who act very snobby and cliquey.

Neither of the above in response to question 2.

Oh and I'm all for the girly drinks like apple martinis.
