A couple of weeks ago I got a few interview invites (Harvard, Columbia and a few other ones) but the thing is that I already signed up to rewrite the Canadian DAT in November before I got these interviews. The only reason I applied to American schools is that I didn't want to have any regrets later in life knowing that I didn't give it a shot but my primary goal was to go to a Canadian Dental school. Plus I thought I could bump my AA a little bit higher (23AA) to improve my chances for Canadian Schools since Canadian Schools don't care if it drops (they take highest AA).

So I'm wondering what happens if I get accepted to Harvard DMD but get a lower DAT score on my next DAT? Can Harvard revoke their offer? I didn't think this would be an issue but my friend convinced me that it could be otherwise. Any help would be appreicated 🙂

With pre-December Harvard and Columbia interviews in-hand retaking the DAT would be a waste, in my opinion. Your stats are clearly great, so I'd spend the time practicing your interview skills instead of retaking the DAT.

why would you retake the DAT if you have already have interviews?? your foot is already in the door, when you go to the interview make sure you make it into the interviewer's office and leave your mark. hell maybe even take a piece of candy from their desk

The difference between a 23AA and a 26AA isn't much, don't risk it for such a small margin (assuming all scores are 20+)

Oh, and could you share your ECs?

I'm in a similar kind of situation. My primary goal is to gain acceptance to a Canadian dental school, mainly UWO. I was waitlisted last year with 22 AA/RC but didn't get in, so I signed up to retake the cDAT this november. I'm still not 100% if I'm going to actually rewrite and risk it, but you can always just not show up and it's cancelled. Study your hardest now and if you're not sure that you can get higher than 23, don't rewrite. Just my two cents.

I'm similar.

I signed up for both the August ADAT and November CDAT with the mindset of using the ADAT as practice.

Took the ADAT and have been super burned out since lol. I just can't seem to look at this material anymore. Couple this apathy with a full courseload/part time job and I'm heavily leaning towards not going to the cDAT 🙁

It just sucks that only toronto and UBC will count my aDAT. My old cDAT scores are too poor to be of use anywhere else.

Man trust me, I'm just as unmotivated right now lmao. Also sucks for me since UWO looks at your most recent DAT attempt, not the best score as some other schools do. We already signed up though so we may as well just try our best and see what we can accomplish.

Haha are you applying anywhere outside of London?

I totally get what you mean, I still have some time to decide. If all the canadian schools just looked at your best attempt, this would be a no brainer. But with UWO only taking the most recent I'm not sure yet.

Personally, I think I'm just going to focus on school (I'm super behind in school, need to get the **** off forums). Don't want one more exam on top of that. If I am unsuccessful this year, I will for sure retake the cDAT to apply more broadly in Canada.

Best of luck bro with whatever you choose to do 🙂

Definitely applying all over Canada this time at schools that I meet requirements. Only applied to UWO last year and I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket again. Yea I think I may just forego rewriting haha, really don't want to write it and get lower, I'd feel like an idiot.
Good luck to you too man!

retaking a 23 🙄. want me to join you :hungry:?! xDD. Seriously if these schools invited you, I doubt your stats are a problem. Now if only I could change my grades for the first 2 yrs lol

It's because Canadian Schools don't care how many times you take the DAT and whether you improve/drop. So since I have a lot of free time on my hands, I wanted to rewrite to see if I can score higher and improve my chances for UofT post-interview. But now that I got interviews, my only concern is the possibility that Harvard and Columbia gives me acceptances but my AA score dropping on the next DAT.

Also, not sure if I can cancel my DAT anymore 🙁

No offense, and I may be totally wrong as I know absolutely nothing about Canadian Schools, but this: "It's because Canadian Schools don't care how many times you take the DAT and whether you improve/drop" seems absolutely ludicrous.

It's true: "If the test is written more than once, the highest set of DAT scores will be used. The DAT must have been taken within two calendar years prior to the application deadline" Source: https://www.dentistry.utoronto.ca/admissions/doctor-dental-surgery-dds/academic-requirements

I'm not gonna go search up all the schools but that's the general pattern for all Canadian schools

are you only required to submit your highest score? Or are they sent all of your scores and they only "consider" the highest one. Honest question--no idea.

My point being, retaking a 23, and especially if you score lower, will surely raise some eyebrows.
