Just curious.
Knowing that there are multiple factors exist for match, what is sufficient "rank" to be competitive candidate for Harvard Ortho? I guess it may differ which D-school you went. But, just roughly? Top 1-3 only?

I gather that the assumption here is that because it's Harvard, that it is among the top Ortho programs in the country? Is this your assumption?

Harvard has a reputation for being stronger in didactics than clinical experience. I've heard many people belittle the quality of orthodontic education at Harvard. I think the truth is that Harvard is a quality program. You will definitely learn there. However, Harvard has a stronger reputation in other fields. To think that Harvard is significantly better than a school that is half the price would be a mistake. The reputations of orthodontic programs tend to be built by attendings that are published or on the lecture circuit. Proffit is at UNC. Kokich (recently deceased) was at UW. His son has taken over the reigns and seems to be continuing a strong tradition at UW. The Alexander dynasty has ties to Baylor. There are strong attendings that lecture nationally at San Antonio. The Nanda's are at Oklahoma and UConn. I'm sure I left some out but hopefully this information is useful to you.
