hey everyone! i called georgetown today and they told me that a decision letter has been sent yesterday but they wont tell me if it's for an interview or rejection. my application was submitted for review last week and a decision's already been made? I was just wondering if anyone has gotten rejections from georgetown and the earliest date you can get a rejection from them.

whoa, don't want to be a downer, but they send invites by e-mail, not snail mail.

When did you get the e-mail saying you were complete?

I think I have a rejection on the way too...I called too and I was told the committee had reached a decision on my application....and then I asked if it would come in the mail and he said yes...he sounded a little sorry for me, like I had been rejected...that is sad...

Although I was complete late july, i was told that my application wasn't reviewed till last week because so many people were ahead of me.

and when were you guys complete?

I was complete around August 20th, so I was a little bit surprised that I had been reviewed so fast...my stats were low for the school (AO GPA is about a 3.6, but BCPM is low, around a 3.2), but in a lot of other way I was a really good 'fit' and I have been living and working in DC for the last year, which I thought might help me...guess not...I spoke to a friend of mine in med school and he said he has heard that Georgetown screens people out post-secondary based on stats and that message on the secondary website about the stats of their applicants is meant to be a warning. I have NO idea, though, if there is any truth to that, or whether they just didn't like me...

I guess it's possible that its a pre-secondary hold, but based on the guy's voice, I really don't think so...I don't even know if Georgetown does those, anyone know?

They definitely look past just stats post-secondary, if you have something really outstanding. My uncle has told me that they do have a post-secondary hold, but that was for the dental school, although i assume the medical school would have a similar system.

That doesn't sound too promising. I'll probably be hearing from them pretty soon as well, since I was complete there on 7/16 and I have less than desirable stats for their school. 🙁 Everyday I run down to the mailbox hoping to get something about another interview, but also dreading receiving a flood of rejection letters. Life sucks right now haha.

But is that true for all applicants (looking past stats), or for special categories of applicants, such as underrepresented minorities? If they have a post-secondary hold, then I guess it is possible (though unlikely) that is the situation, and not a rejection..

I got the Georgetwon rejection letter today in the mail. I'm not exactly sure what it said since my mom just called and told me.

im still dnot know if i should do the geogetown secondary...5000 word essay is ridiculous along with their secondary fee. im only an avg student in terms of gpa/mcat so i dont know if its worth my time and money...

5000 CHARACTERS not words!!!! haha makes a big difference...

p.s. i wrote only 2600... i say if you can afford it why not,, if youre trying to save well... why did you apply there in the first place?

has anyone gotten any other type of letter from georgetown other than a rejection letter?

I haven't gotten my letter yet, which is a bit surprising since I live in DC, but when I read the FAQs on the status page, it said applicants would either be selected for an interview or rejected...they made no mention at all of any other status. I am guessing if there was another status, they would send that by email or one could be informed by phone....here's to hoping...

I think they send out invitations by both email and snailmail. since i've gotten no email invitation so far, im guessing it's gonna be a rejection in the mail.

Pshh look at that DO interview list on your MDApps profile .... I don't think that sucks at all!!!!😎

I just got the letter in the mail. A resolute rejection...wohn, wohn, wooooohhhhnnnnn

First rejection, but in the words of Bon Jovi: Shot through the heart, but I'm not dead. They gave my application cycle a bad name.

Just got the rejection today. Awesome.

Got Georgetown's too....short, and not so sweet...

Dear FirstName LastName,

The Committee on Admissions has completed its consideration of your application for admission to the 2008 First Year Class of the Georgetown University School of Medicine. Unfortunately, the Committee has decided that it is not possible to offer you a place in the class. Please be assured that your application has been given personal consideration. We appreciate your interest in the Georgetown University School of Medicine and wish you well in your future endeavors.

Not So Much Love,

Georgetown

Hey we are all pretty sure that a letter in the mail is a rejection?
I am kind of bummed. My stats: 34Q 4.0. I guess I thought I would get an interview. my roommate says she has a georgetown letter waiting for me at home, though, and she really wants to open it. haha i think i'll open it myself this time.

Yeahhh it's a rejection, sad to say.🙁 With a 34 4.0, you shouldn't be hard-pressed to get into an excellent med school, anyway, so don't let the Georgetown rejection get to you.

I got mine in the mail yesterday. I guess my essay wasn't too convincing because I have decent stats...

I found my rejection letter opened last night. Just seeing it open I knew it was a rejection cuz if it was an interview, my parents would have called to tell me....My stats are up to their standards, so I'm wondering what they found in my application that they did not like.

Just got my rejection today, somewhat surprising as I am semi-competitive (3.99, 35MCAT). Funny enough the envelope came half opened and taped up a bit. LOL. Still it is my first rejection and I am a bit disheartened I suppose.

Kyle

They are also greedy a$$holes with their $130 secondary fee. 😡

that's so funny because i am in the exact same shoes. if anything i was really hoping for an interview with them and didn't feel like it would be too much of a reach school. my envelope came half opened and taped up as well.

i am contemplating sending them an email to ask the reasons for rejection, maybe to learn from my mistakes and to strength the remaining parts of my application. how would i word such an email?

a lot of schools won't talk about reasons you got rejected until the end of the interview season, they're too busy to deal with that stuff right now. some places will talk, but most will say call back in april or something (kind of stupid that they tell you how to improve just a couple months or so before the next app cycle starts if you're planning to reapply).

Any updates on Georgetown?
I was complete around 9/10 and I am wondering if there are any interviews or rejections to people complete around the same time?

If there is no postmark date telling the post office to hold it until Oct 15th, it's unfortunately a rejection. Also, since they sent it out this early... well. there are other schools in the sea!

TopDocChick - The rejection came one month after being complete.

I got the letter on friday. I can't believe all those ppl with great stats getting rejected like that.

Son was G-town undergrad--36 MCAT, 3.9 Science GPA, 3.8 overall GPA. Rejected post-interview--and they wonder why their endowment is so small--shoot your own in the foot!?! Later had 3 acceptances & 2 waitlists. He's Columbia c/o 2011. There is hope for all of you! 😍

What exactly is Georgetown looking for? Obviously it is not stats. Anyone know?

They probably want people with average stats and lots of amazing extracurriculars. So they can keep their mcat average at 30 and get over 10k people applying and making a bunch of money off of secondaries.

People with "great stats" often want to go somewhere else. GWU just extracts the secondary fee from them and sends them on their way!
