Has anyone heard from RUSH?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
KCT15, welcome to the club as well. 3/4 Congratulations to you. And ndteej and jrock, that information helps a lot so thank you.

Going off of Jrock's 205 and the average total is 260 (?), we have 25-55 acceptances available. Only question is, how many people are on the waitlist?

Hey thanks everyone that has been rooting for me and all the others that are hoping to get into Rush. I'm going to try to take a little break from SDN because it's gotten to the point where I am checking it throughout the day and cutting down on my productivity. I'll probably be back on regularly around May 10th. Best of luck to all those on the waitlist. If I get any info I'll be sure to post.

Well, I'm back. Jill told us there was no waitlist movement last year. Does anyone know if that's typical, or if there's usually some decent movement?

I heard they over admitted last year, and it was unusual that there was no waitlist movement. This year, I'm pretty sure they admitted less to avoid over-filling the class again ... so there will probably be waitlist movement.

I hear last year was also a record year for number of applicants in general since 1992. Medical schools were not prepared for this surge and thereby, admitted a lot. This year, they prepared themselves and should have normal movement...what that is, I'm pleased as pissed to say I'll never really know.

(To kill time, anybody know that last reference?)

All on Black by Alkaline Trio (great band with great lyrics)

We should just do trivia until the whole May 10-15th date comes.

Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.

Hahaha, just because I see tiny purple monkeys dancing on my face, that makes me insane? If that's so wrong, I don't want to know what's right.

I guess their list will be updates one last time on May 15th

Every time it's on TNT, I say to myself...welp, there go my next three hours.

HAHAHA! That happened to me the night before my interview at Rush. I stayed up till 2am as "Andy crawled to freedom through five-hundred yards of **** smelling foulness I can't even imagine, or maybe I just don't want too. Five-Hundred yards... that's the length of five football fields, just shy of half a mile."

- Now that sounds a lot like my journey to med school! LOL! 😀

Hahaha...that pretty much sums up the application process and hopefully, there's freedom and glory at the end our tunnel of **** too. One more awesome quote from the movie:

"Get busy living, or get busy dying"

Hey ReachingTruth...i saw in another post that you said one of the schools you are waitlisted at is making decisions about ranking tomorrow. Is this Rush? How'd you get the info? If so...do you think we'll hear before May 10th about rank/third?

This is what I think because they gave the deadline of April 27th for applicants to submit updates. They meet on Wednesdays so I would think it's game time for them. No hard evidence though. In that post, I was making an assumption for my situation.

However, I do think we'll hear before May 10th.

Good logic. I'm going to call them tomorrow to for an update. I really really hope there's some waitlist movement!

Hey...congrats on being selected to speak at your graduation.

Thanks! Would you mind telling me what their phone number is?

The person I call is not on the adcom or even in admissions so I can't give you a number.

Ah, the old "Adcom's secretary's cousin's daughter's friend you dated once and never called back until you applied to medical school and now is your 'in' to figure out what's going on at the school?" Yea, I got one of those.😛

If you can though, please let us know if there any updates. 🙂

Yah...well you know...have to do what you have to do. I like to think I'm actually qualified though. And my "in" didn't exactly get me IN 🙂

I called and found out nothing. I don't think they have met to review waitlisters yet. My next call/email will probably be to Jill Porter post 5/10 if I have not heard anything. My guess is that we won't here before 5/10.

Ah, thanks for trying though. And of course, I have no doubt you're qualified or else you wouldn't have interviewed. Although, it feels like a lottery system sometimes about who gets in, who gets shafted, and who gets to wait.

Let's start a pool on when you think we'll hear from them. Date and Hour. Closest one wins?

May 10th, 2-3 PM.

My guess...May 14th, 8:30am. The letter said "after May 10th"

I'm thinking (hoping) that since the adcom meets on Wednesdays, the 10th will be the day the office sends out their rankings.

That was my thinking. They meet on Wed. and decide. Thursday morning, the admissions office gets to work on designating each person into their third. After lunch, write up the email and send it out around 2 PM.

And I say, committee orders the list on Wednesday morning, office makes up emails that afternoon. First thing on Thursday morning, they hit send. Only time will tell which one of us is right. Damn, we're going nuts aren't we?

All this waiting, and I guarantee you I'm in bottom, or middle third at best.

That would make them the most efficient med school admissions office EVER!!! Sure would be nice if that were the true turn-around-time though. 👍

None of this self doubt. You interviewed, you have a shot. (I'm not going to lie and say that's not my fear, but no need to guarantee that s**t). Damn it, we're all going to be classmates. We have to. Write them an update letter "Most active on RUSH thread for SDN." That's gotta move us up at least one third.

Touche`. When in Rome....I still don't know what that means. (it's from a movie).

Curious...

Did most of you waitlisters write update letters to put in your file before the 4/27 deadline? I didn't because I didn't really have any info to update them with...I'm wondering if I'm the only one that didn't.

Haha, thanks Reaching Truth, that was a good motivational talk. 😀 I actually did write a letter of intent on April 26th, because my last interview was on April 25th (I wanted to be honest about my letter). KCT, I almost didn't write one, but then I talked to a couple interns who said "definitely write one," so I figured, hey, it can't hurt.

Who did you write it to? I just wrote Jill Porter another thank you letter (via email), but that was it. Nothing specifically to the admissions committee. Jill the respond with a thank you for the note email.

I just addressed it to the adcom, but attached it to an email that I sent to Jill. She said she'd add it to my file. It was pretty basic, it just said that after attending all my interviews, I liked Rush way better. I personally don't think it has the potential to sway their decision, but it was one of those "couldn't hurt trying" things.

I addressed it to Dr. Thonar (double check spelling on your letter), admissions chair who officially sent the waitlist letter. Jill made clear that she has no say in the actual admissions of applicants, just the logistics. I do suggest writing a Letter of Intent to the admissions committee expressing why you like the school and why you'd go there over any other. Also, inform them of anything new they don't have on record that you've been doing since the AMCAS or secondary.
