have you ever gotten a letter of rec from a professor that

Yes, my best LOR was from my o-chem professor, and I had a B for first semester, and a B+ for the second semester. I am closest with him, we get along great, and he definitely knows me better than all my other professors. I asked him to write me a letter, he showed it to me, and it was stellar. I wouldn't discount a professor just because you didn't have an A in their class.

great to hear that. I thought all professors would only write letters for A students.

Nope, I got one from my ochem professor that I worked closely with, got an A-, B.
I got one from my research professor that gave me a tough research project, in which I failed to produce anything useful. I developed a close relationship with him and he wrote me a darn good one.

It is all about how close you are with your professor

Of course professors you got an A from are always a good idea but I got one from my organic professor and got a B in the class. I really struggled in the beginning but worked hard and brought the grade up by the end.

I got one of mine from my OChem professor who happened to be head of the chemistry department as well. I, too, got Bs in both semesters of OChem and he still wrote me a positive LOR. I don't know if getting a C and then asking would be a great idea, but I think a B is just fine. 😉

All of my (four) LORs were from professors that gave me Bs or B+s and it didn't seem to make a difference.

I chose them because I actually tried in the class and I learned something, it was just a difficult class to get an A in.
