I've been concerned regarding not receiving any secondaries yet. My app got verified on 7/8 and my app was submitted to schools on 7/15. I applied broadly to 15 schools. I also included in my app that I am retaking the exam next month. My stats are 3.74s/3.67c/23. Thanks for the help.

Schools might be holding your app until you retake. What schools are on your list?

Wait, just realized its been a week. Granted some schools sent me secondaries back in the day, within a week of them getting my app, but I didn't get many others until about 2-3wks after they got my app. They may be on the way.

Some schools only screen based on GPA, whereas others screen for both GPA and MCAT. I got secondaries from 7 schools without my MCAT, but the others are waiting for my score. I think most that do screen based on MCAT require a 24 or higher

Really? I've heard that many places don't look at your application until your application is complete, aka your MCAT score is included. That's why I have been waiting to send out my application. If that's the case, I should just send it out now...right?

I took my exam mid-June and just had my scores released to AACOMAS (should go out Wednesday morning for re-release). I decided to submit early so that I could get ahead of the verification rush towards the end of summer. I'd wait it out until your scores are posted, get them released and then contact programs to let them know that your app is complete. I may be way off base, but I think that would be my course of action.

With a 23 MCAT, you'll need to be patient. You're scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Thanks everyone for the help. I'll wait it out another week. I applied to:
A.T. Still University, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, MO

A.T. Still University, School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona, AZ
Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University, AZ
Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University, Admissions Office, IL
Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine, IA
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine - Bradenton Campus, FL
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine - Erie/Seton Hill, PA
Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine, FL
NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, NY
Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine, WA
Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Osteopathic Medicine, CO
Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine - California, CA
Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine - Nevada, NV
University of Pikeville-Kentucky, College of Osteopathic Medicine, KY
Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific - Lebanon, OR
Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific - Pomona, CA

Or maybe the delay could be due to the following on my AACOMAS page: "Release dates appear next to schools." and I don't see a release date. Nonetheless, I will work to improve my MCAT score. Good luck to everyone this cycle!

Yeah, no.

You will get secondaries when your score is 27+

I got secondaries without an MCAT from both Lecom campuses, NOVA and Midwestern as well as a few others (Philadelphia COM both campuses and MSU). If you score better on your retake you'll get them.

Your list is WAY too top heavy for your MCAT score. You don't have a single new school on there, let alone a school that has lower MCAT averages, except maybe KYCOM. All the schools on your list are at least mid-tier stat wise, and you're applying with pretty much the lowest MCAT I'd suggest applying to any DO school with. You need to add some more reasonable schools for your current stats.

That said, a lot of schools probably are putting you on hold until your new scores come in.

Looks like you probably got auto screened at LECOM's. They have a minimum of 24.

They'll most likely put him on a pre-secondary hold.

Thats exactly what I was thinking...

Like people are arguing that he should still get secondaries. But what does that matter? We have come to a bigger issue which is the fact that even IF he gets secondaries, thats where this poor fellow will stop.

You don't need a 27+ to get secondaries, especially some of the schools he listed - whats your deal? Most schools even emphasize that they take a holistic approach in evaluating each candidate in the admissions process on their website, and do not judge simply on MCAT alone.

I'm not trying to be an ass about it but w/ a 23 that list is VERY top heavy. His GPA is pretty good so I'm guessing he's a smart guy but the MCAT needs to go up.

How many people with <25 did you see get into WU, DMU, CCOM, NSU last year?

I've received some secondaries. Do you think I should turn them in early or wait until I get the results of my new MCAT score (Test date: 8/21)? Thank you.

Hmm... that is a tough situation... my instinct says that you should wait, but I could definitely be wrong. A 23 is an automatic knockout at a lot of schools. But at the same time I am not aware of whether or not they will wait for your new MCAT. Unless you hear some definitive "go aheads" then instinctually I would tell you to wait.

One good idea would be to contact several of these schools and ask their opinions; maybe try and get into the mindset of their admissions process. If they say they will wait to review your application until the new MCAT comes in, then absolutely go for it.

I'd wait. Most schools will put you on hold as opposed to rejecting you, but many will wait for your new scores anyways. Its probably safer to wait for your new score to be in, because at best they'll not review your app until the retake, and at worse, they'll look at it now and potentially reject you.
