Just to let you know, at my undergrad we never knew our final exam schedules until *after* course withdrawl deadlines (which did suck some semesters). 🙁

Not knowing your exam schedule til game time(or close to it)does suck indeed. If that was the case for the OP then by enrolling in those 4 or 5 or whatever classes s/he should realize that having a rough finals schedule is a possibility. There are ways around that. She could have pestered the profs so she knew when her finals/tests were going to be. But either way many premeds have been in the same shoes and have survived rough final schedules or rough schedules period. (I know I have, even when i knew the final schedules, since i needed some classes and perhaps a more convenient schedule had a class close on me and i'd have to enroll in an orgo class that had a final the same day as physics for essentially 6 hours straight of finals taking. talk about having your brain turn to mush  ) My point was that a rough schedule shouldn't be an excuse to do poorly. More often than not most schools allow you to plan your own course schedule out. Perhaps the OP should not have chosen such a rigorous schedule to begin with.

ok, i think this is the last time i am going to post something on SDN. This site is supposed to help. Whenever i post a personal thing, i get bombarded with rude comments, and get attacked by dogs. out of the many comments, only a few are actually helpful.

And, i do take responsibility for my actions. Stop attacking me by saying , "Grow up. Dont blame ur teachers for what is actually your fault." I did tell my teacher that i some part of this mess is my fault..etc.

Silver, I'm not sure you can expect a lot of help from people when you refer to them as "dogs." Do yourself a favor -- run a search on the threads you've started in the past year and a half-- you might start to see a trend. First, you were all anxious because you didn't do well on your SAT's, but it wasn't your fault. Then you were upset because you were doing poorly your first semester at college but again it wasn't your fault -- it was the "bad" professors, remember? Every time, including this one, you've been getting a lot of good advice, which you dismiss as cruel or insensitive. Somehow I have a feeling you may be reacting the same way to the advice you get from professors, advisors, classmates, etc. They're not trying to be mean, they're just being honest and giving you a reality check, which you desperately, desperately need. Look at what you just wrote in the post quoted above -- "I did tell my teacher that some part of this is my fault." Try all of it being your "fault" or at least your responsibility. You are the one studying, taking the tests, organizing your schedule -- no one else is responsible for that 2.0 except yourself. The sooner you realize this the sooner you can try to actually improve your performance rather than just complain about how unfair life is.

Womansurg and some other posters gave you the best advice possible, the most realistic advice. Right now, whether you want to hear it or not, med school is not going to happen for you. You need to first manage premed classes somewhat successfully (in other words, at least a 3.0 average or better) before you can even contemplate med school. Even for people who "aced" their premed courses, medical school can be very challenging. If you're serious about graduating from college, set some much smaller goals for yourself before you even contemplate graduate school. Like womansurg suggested, try just taking one class next semester (at UOP or maybe a community college) and see if you can get an "A" in that one class. If you're successful, go from there -- add another class or two each semester until you can successfully manage a full load of classes. Concentrate on getting through undergrad before worrying too much about grad school at this point.

Most importantly, you really need to meet with some advisors at UOP. I know you've complained about them before and some of your complaints may be justified. But, they will probably be able to give you far better advice and information about how to proceed at this point with the rest of your academics than anyone on an internet message board -- whether you should go half-time (meaning take just one or two classes), take a leave of absence and return in a year, change your major, etc.

And finally, try being honest and realistic with yourself. It's hard, it may be painful, and you may have to accept and realize a lot of things that you don't like about yourself, but you're not going to be able to turn this around otherwise. Good luck.

I agree with lilycat. THe bottom line is you are not going to make it to medical school if you keep this attitude up. No matter how many "success stories" you hear, about people getting in with 2.5 GPAs, they probably have had some extenuating circumstances that allowed them to get in. And while it's true that GPA/MCAT scores don't really predict how well you do in med school, it seems doubtful that with your attitude you will be able to make it through medical school. Being a doctor isn't just about a big heart and a dream. It also takes hard work, dedication, the right attitude and responsibility. You can't blame a teacher for not rescheduling a test because you had other responsibilities to meet. You think med school's going to be all fun and games? Really, you should take the advice on this board and step away and re-evaluate your situation. No, you aren't going to get into medical school with a 2.0, so don't expect people here to give you false hope and tell you that all is fine with your grades b/c all is not fine.

After reading your response, I am actually quite pleased that you won't be joining the rest of us SDNers as a colleague. Maybe its better for society that people like you don't make it to medical school, the appropriate mechanisms of "weeding out" are obviously at work, and they are weeding out the right people.

Who I really feel sorry for are the poor saps that will consider you for whatever nonmedical jobs / education you eventually slither into. 🙄

Test scores have nothing to do with how good of a doctor you are. It's about how much you CARE.

So all of you nerds with your 3.6 GPAs should stop picking silver_eyes. She obviously cares more about medical school then you. Besides, I hear people with GPAs above 3.0 are not friendly and have bad bed side manners. Who would want a book-smart guy to be their doctor? I want a friendly doctor who looks like me.

lilycat, moo, womansurg, et al are right on.

As tough as it is, you have some serious thinking to do. Be realistic about your motivations and interests and find a way to reconcile them with your abilities. You need to reassess who you are and what your goals may be.

As much as it sucks, sometimes life isn't fair. Some people have an easier time in life than others. But you need to stop feeling sorry for yourself and roll with the punches. How can anyone ever be helpful if you feel the world (including the "dogs" on SDN) is against you?

The best thing you can do right now is stop. Take some time... a weekend, a month, a semester... and really get to know yourself. Talk to friends, family, a career counselor, and perhaps a therapist. Most importantly, try to calm down and gain some perspective on where you are and where you're going. As hard as it is, be honest and objective with yourself. At this point, it doesn't look like you're on the road to becoming a physician.

No one can help you unless you help yourself.

Good luck,
doepug

OK, I strongly agree with the criticism given to silver eyes (esp. since I tried to give her advice which she didn't take b/c I am white and of course understand nothing about other cultures🙄 ). But, do you honestly think all of your repetitive, life is tough speeches really make a difference with this kind of person? All you are doing is giving her the attention she wants but doesn't deserve. Don't waste your time; especially not going over old posts of hers..

oh, ok, I know I'm being hypocritical, but here is an example of the difference between a fair criticism and a personal attack:

Fair Criticism: silvereyes, you need to change your attitude and study habits if you want to be successful.

Personal Attack: you are a lousy student and are never going to go to med school b/c you are just too damn stupid to exist as anything other than a 10th year student at Podunk community college of Idaho.

does that clear things up? btw, I wouldn't hurl the insult at anyone, just an example.

ok. let me clear this up. i didnt mean to call u guys dogs. i wrote it wrong and obivously didnt proofread. i meant I WAS BEING ATTACKED LIKE A DOG. NOT I AM BEING ATTACKED MY DOGS. I am terribly sorry. i swear i didnt mean to call u guys that. ur choice if u want to believe me or not.:hardy:

katie,
who told u i am against whites? I am against nobody...blacks, whites, indians, pakis, mexicans, etc are all the same to me. they are human..they deserve respect regardless of their religion or ethnic background. the way some peole gave me advice, wasnt delivered in a nice manner. u guys put me down, call me names, accuse me of things that i dont do (like being against whites)....and then u say im immature and that i am better off never entering medical school 😕 . NONE of u guys know me. i know im having grade problems and i know i gotta suck it up and do better. but sometimes, it IS the professors fault. i reaiz ethat med school is hard and competitive.

I don't believe you about your "dogs" copout and I am glad that you will soon be leaving SDN. From what I have seen from your other posts you are a cancer to the system and just like all cancers you need to be removed. The system is working indeed.

ok, i think this is the last time i am going to post something on SDN.

That was about 10 posts ago. Please stop already!!

Wouldn't it be a laugh if silver_eyes is setting us up? Suppose she is really on top of the game, but we choose to buy into and follow her phony sad plight on SDN for the next 2-3 years like folks hooked on a soap opera. Then, low and behold, she gets into med school (say Washington U with a full ride scholarship even). She will not only have the last laugh, she will become a Saint to all those med school wannabes who dream of getting there without puttiing in the effort.

Groundhog, now, THAT is being paranoid,! No, I doubt that she is setting us up.

Katie isn't saying you are against whites. She is saying that you implied that just because she("she" meaning Katie) is white that she("she" meaning Katie again) doesn't understand anything about your culture(or any other culture for that matter). However, just because Katie is white and not of your culture doesn't automatically mean she has bad advice or advice you can't take.

This thread already has enough responses, silver eyes, for you to take what is the best advice and use it as best as u please. There is no need for this thread to go 4 pages long..and give it more attention than it needs.

This thread is closed.

Ah crap, I can't do that.

i wasn't trying to piss anyone off with my little bc remark but it proves that if u wanna talk crap in diff. languages about other people they can do it back to you... the people in this thread offered their honest opinions.

i don't know how the op's professors really are but saying they're racist is serious stuff... and very f*cked up if it's not true. like someone stated earlier(i think), people's lives are ruined because of things like that. +pissed+

🙄

who says u can't have a great gpa in undergrad and become a successful/friendly physician? besides.. it's extremely hard to fail a class unless you try..

btw.. i don't know any person in my class who had less than a 3.0 undergrad GPA.. and pretty much everyone i know has a great bedside manners.. idk where you're getting your info

I usually don't reply to "dramatics" like this but after seeing the exchanging of "insults", back and fourth, back and fourth, I just wanted to say in my own experience and opinion that yes anyone can royally screw themselves during their college years by not focusing, not keeping up with homework etc. But honestly SDN, family, friends, nobody can help you, you have to want it for yourself. Your only lying to yourself if you try to build up walls to prevent people from seeing what you did wrong. I mean if you had a calc class where 20% of the students failed, out of that 20% how many of them can actually say they failed because they tried so hard and did so much homework till their brain fell out and STILL it didnt' help. On a very basic standpoint, and anyone can call me on this if they want, anyone can do good in college, all it is just hard work. Yeah it helps to be smart, but for the rest of us who aren't blessed with natural intelligence we need to work twice as hard. If people would spend less time complaining and looking for sympathy maybe they'd have more time to study for what their complaining about in the first place. Don't play the race card, or the my prof sucks card, that's just cheap. Most people don't learn during lecture because their too busy writing down all the stuff the prof is saying, that's why we have to study and do homework...and I KNOW theirs always homework to do in any math/science class...esp. physics. Anyways, I was in the same boat a few years back, had like a 1.8 gpa and was on the edge of getting kicked out of the university. But after a few years of hard work and kicking my own ass (meaning no more parties and no more "long weekends" ) and now I have a 3.7 and I've just been accepted as a transfer student to U of Michigan -ann arbor. I'm not trying to float my own boat, i'm just saying if you honestly want it bad enough, you have to want to make the change. Nobody's advice is going to help you if you don't want to hear about what you might be doing wrong. And if your school is that bad, then switch schools. If money's a problem go to a community college for a while, do good, transfer someplace else w/ the good gpa from the comm college and apply for grants/scholarships. Honestly, like i said, don't blame race, profs or anyone else, that's just the easy way out.

Nope, just saving her from reading more ego bruising posts, you can't help those who have their ears closed.

I agree with DragonM, this post is not serving as a guide to anyone (which is the purpose of the post, heh) rather it's supposedly offending some people...

I've read the boards for a couple years and it seems I always come across some thread by silver eyes claiming that she is failing and how the world is against her. You need to slap yourself and wake up. It makes me sick. Check your study habits. If you can't handle UofP ugrad can you handle med school? I don't think you have enough character to become a doctor. Overcome or fail, it's up to you and only you.

hey everyone- this may be a dumb question (but I'm only a junior in high school, I guess its allowed) is UOP a very rigorous school??

No.

To the OP, suck it up, take some responsiblity for your inaction.

Hope That Helps.

I'm in favor of keeping the post open. Some of you with delicate feelings should just not read it if it offends you. I for one am sick of people bitching and moaning on SDN about "how school is so hard and I'm never gonna get it. Boo hoo. Stroke my ego and tell me about how great I am and if I work hard I am bound to make it." What a load of crap.

If you are posting on here for criticism and advice then take it, even if it hurts. I know I have over the years.

Med school is not for everyone and I for one will offer encouragement when it is neccesary, constructive criticism when needed, and also destructive criticism when warranted. This person has asked for it and she got it.

Let's keep this open and keep it going so that in 2 or 3 years when the OP wises up she can come back to SDN and pull up this thread. Then she can see what a bitc* she was.

I guess you have a point there. You have to have a strong heart, and not let anyone's comments bring you down.

lol, I do agree how everyone always complains on how they "...won't make it..."

yeah, that's true, everyone feels that way. however you have to keep working your ass off if you want something, and never give up!!!!!!

hey everyone... haha I'm new at this but what's the OP?

OP=Original Poster.

Nazar my a$$.
