Having trouble explaining a "W". Any advice?

This was for a course in my second year of college, so relatively early. I dropped it because I found out it wouldn't articulate for course credit when transferring to my uni and I didn't want to risk getting a B for a class I didn't need. How do I explain that properly?

Do we actually have to explain Ws on transcript? I have one in a humanities class from freshman year that i retook for an A and another in a bio seminar for a total of 2 during my entire undergrad.

One school, I forgot which one (Rochester maybe?) asks if you ever received a W, I, or F, and I think there's an optional section to explain. Most secondaries don't specifically ask you to explain W's though.

I'm in the same boat. I decided to transfer from my freshman year university, and a class that I was taking did not fill any graduation requirements for my next university. I think unless specifically asked, I'm going to leave it be. If I get as far as an interview, then I will answer honestly if they ask.

You don't explain it unless specifically asked about it, and then you simply tell the truth.

One of the schools I'm applying to asks to explain any C's, withdrawals, or other academic blemishes. Otherwise I wouldn't have.

USF Morsani has you explain any "academic difficulties", including B- grades.

My comment was more towards people who feel they have to explain every black mark, prompts or no.
