For those of you who are ahead of the game and are juniors or whatever, are you aware that they are changing the format of the GRE test? I'm not certain exactly what will be done, but there was an article in the NYT about it, and some of the sample problems I didn't get teh rationalle behind the answeres tehy were giving. It was a sunday morning so I'm sure it wasn't that the test was impossible, but it is something to think about when you are prepping for next year.

If anyone has more information they could share it here to help everyone out. Good luck!

no more geometry (or much less). Not as much vocab oriented stuff, analogies etc. More reading comprehension. I think the idea is to make it more applicable to how someone will actually perform in grad school by creating a conceptual test.

I think these sound like good changes (I am thankful that I am a junior who has yet to take the test) but I hope they get new GRE materials out so I can prep for it. I have no idea what to do now! If anyone else has information please let me know!

Here's something to think about for those yet to take the test and applying a few years from now. Because the format is radically different there will be essentially no point of comparison for schools to evaluate your scores. Sure they can compare you to other applicants but they will have to take the scores with a grain of salt. I mean, who really knows what is good or bad the first time around? This will help out those who are apt to recieve an average or weaker score. Conversely, it will probably put a greater emphasis on research experience, letters, and personal statements.

I wouldn't be so sure PS. If the kids at ETS do it like they should then they can still, or have allready normed the test. That means tehy know what the mean score wil be for each section, the peg that at 500 (approximately, it should be there but slight variations exist) with 100 pints being equal to one standard deviation. Thus, your 670 now would be teh same as irish's 670 next year. It's dictated by how well everyone else does. They renorm teh test every 5 years or so, that's why your scores become invalid, tehy are based on teh scores of your generations cohort. So unless tehy are changing the system from the 800 points, it will be the sae. The wrting section was a different story since they went to that crazy 6 point thing. Just some thoughts.

The scoring will be on a totally different scale, something like 110-160. I think regardless of what the GRE people say is going to be average, schools will be a little reluctant to place as heavy an importance on scores the first year because the test is radically different. Not to mention, 4 hours long (!) happy I don't have to deal with it.
