I just want to get the rejection letter so that I can stop thinking about it and start looking for a place in Chicago to live. Boo to making us wait forever!
My trip to the mailbox is scaring me.calstudent said:it's possible. i'm near the front of the alphabet, and i got the bad news from stanfurd today.
not a good day. hope none of you have to share the same misery!
I live in the bay area so if Stanturd sent out another batch of rejections I should be hearing soon and will post.calstudent said:it's possible. i'm near the front of the alphabet, and i got the bad news from stanfurd today.

that's right .... our hope increases a little bit day by day =) ... ok, someone suggests Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is the critical point in the Stanford process =)UCLAstudent said:I wouldn't worry. Every day that we don't receive one of those thin letters is a good day. 👍

nothing from Stanford today ... I'm too afraid to call, anyone tried to call to check their status?? .... oh yes, it was so scary when I checked my mail today (there was only a SBC bill for me) ....
PhotoMD said:No mail for me today! I feel like every day is a quasi-acceptance when I don't get the envelope of death. My roommate did get a rejection from WashU today though.
yep, the military does send me a lot of recruit stuffs, but anymore recently ... they prob figure out that I don't want to join them =)CanuckRazorback said:I know!!! I had 3 thin enveloppes in my mailbox and I thought my heart was gonna stop. Some recruiting info from the Air Force, a bill sent to the wrong address, and an insurance claim. Oh yeah, and a wedding invitation which is pretty much a bill if you ask me.
Is anyone sick of getting that recruiting info from the army? I'm not even a US citizen and I've told them that before. Apparently they don't care to keep spending money on postage.

I agree .... those thin letter sending to wrong address sometimes do freak us out ... especially if the envelopes is white, and doesn't have any pictures or colors on it =)
ok, so we have the right [given by Stanford and the post office ..hahaha] to keep our hopes alive, at least for today =)

I'm thinking if you can survive to Martin Luther King Day without a rejection letter then you have a pretty good chance (like better than 50%) of getting an interview.
DrDarwin said:Is this Martin Luther King Day thing from a legitimate rumor mill or is it blind speculation? Either way, I hope I survive until then, because "I have a dream..." 😀.

its speculation that 3 weeks will be enough for them to send out all of their rejection letters (rejections from 1st cutoff).DrDarwin said:Is this Martin Luther King Day thing from a legitimate rumor mill or is it blind speculation? TexasSnow said:If you want to stop receiving letters from the military trying to recruit you, fill out the postcard asking them to send you more information. Just make sure your height&weight values classify you as either a pygmy or super obese.
They'll stop contacting you overnight.
Guaranteed.
GuyLaroche said:I was at my Northwestern interview when I overheard a fellow interviewee bragging. "I was accepted at Mayo, NYU... blah, blah, blah... and Stanford." The latter caught my attention. This was in December. I found his story highly suspect. I was sure he was a liar (he also revealed his MCAT scores to be a 14, 14, 14... who reveals their scores in an interview!). However, I see on the Stanford website that admission is rolling. So, Mr. Braggart's assertion of a Stanford admission is plausible.
This was also the same kid who announced, in the information session before the interview started, all of his lofty plans of working with inner city clinics, and research and whatever else. He remains the most memorable interviewee I've met on the interview circuit.
I'm sorry to hear about the letters, Kazema, CarleneM, and CanuckRazorBack ... I'm sure you all will get into many other top schools ... keep the hopes alive ....CanuckRazorback said:Thin letter for me too, dated 1/3/05. First rejection from a school I really wanted to go to. My California hopes are still alive though at USC. Still waiting for UCSD and UCLA. Come on big money!
Good luck to everyone else who want to be a tree!

CanuckRazorBack: at least you still have USC ... I haven't got any interview from any of the CA schools yet ... I'm so worrying ...
Do you have a birthday coming up? Maybe that's the strategy now, who knows? 😕hopefully invites are coming .... I really want them!!!CanuckRazorback said:It's coming FaradayAmpere, it's coming! oh, sounds scarystanford05 said:just sort of FYI,
the admissions office tells me they are only interviewing about 400 applicants this year, somewhat less than in years past.
getunconcsious said:OK I have a question. I got an email the other day from them. I sent them an update letter with a publication in it, and i got this reply:
"We are not adding additional material to the electronic files. If you wish to share your pubs. you may bring copies the day of your interview. I will contact you by email as soon as a favorable interview decision has been made. BTW--Please do not send an update of your transcripts.
Best Regards."
Would yall interpret that as a good or bad sign? I've totally overanalyzed this email for days now, and I think I'm going to go insane.

GuyLaroche said:Um, that sounds absolutely neutral. I wrote to the dean almost three months ago, and obtained a similar noncommittal but pleasant e-mail that left me wondering if indeed I'd be offered an interview. These e-mails can be very hard to phrase.... Still, if you haven't been rejected, then you're still in the running. And that's the only sign you should be looking for.
CaMD said:No news is, well, no news. I think a. they're doing this much later than most schools and b. they're probably behind due to offering everyone secondaries this year.
Haybrant said:So you guys are all sending update letters to the dean? I faxed them in with the intent that they would be added to my file. Perhaps that's the reason I didnt recieve a response.

UCLAstudent said:I just sent it to the admissions office and asked them to add it to my file. Who knows if they actually will!![]()
I can't believe that people are still being bombarded with rejections!![]()
DrDarwin said:Oh, the carnage! I feel like I am part of an advancing rank and everyone around me is being felled. Staggering, I realize that I am somehow still alive, but for how much longer I know not...
I bet that Stanford is being incredibly choosy in its interview selections because it wants to be sure that nearly everyone selected would really want to attend, particularly since the number of interviews have been shaved by 30%. How do they decide who would almost certainly attend? Probably by considering the following two questions (among others):
(1) Would this applicant be really gung ho about studying for FIVE years?
(2) Would this applicant benefit substantially by the new scholarly
concentration requirement?
Because each of these questions pertain to unique features of Stanford's curriculum, applicants who elicit affirmative responses by the admissions committee would probably be invited for an interview, even with mediocre statistics. Many super-stats people would fall by the wayside, however, because they may not benefit as much from Stanford's curriculum and Stanford would have to compete with other top schools for them, which would be a losing battle unless these applicants really wanted to attend medical school for an additional year.
Actually, I have no idea what Stanford is thinking, but I would not be surprised if the above two questions are really important in determining an applicant's fate.
Haybrant said:I whole-heartedly agree. If you wrote in your secondary essay that your future plan is to be a gen practioner and that you love the clinic and didnt mention that you are very much interested in research (basic sci or translat, not clinical) I dont think Stanford will think you are a good match at their school. As for inviting mediocre stat people that fit the research bill, I guess it depends on the def. of mediocre stats, but I dont think it happens too much there. Someone mentioned they are only inviting 400 people. It would be hard to believe that there arent 400 people with good stats and solid research background to at least buttress their claims of interest in reserach.

Its becoming clearer and clearer that I cannot decipher any actions by any school until I get a doomed thin evnvelope or a joyful email. You are right though, opening my mailbax is becoming painful....
well....to live another day
Best of luck to all
