I'm surprised no one has posted, but then again it's SDN and not the car forums..

That is where you and I will have to disagree. For me freedom is not just "good". It is one of my fundamental values and I am proud to live in a country where people die to protect my freedom.

I agree with the previous posters who mentioned an emphasis on education. Studies have actually shown that it is easier for children to learn to control their appetites and keep weight off than adult dieters. The truth is though some people even when educated still won't care...which is why people still smoke and go tanning even when they know it causes cancer. Are they stupid? Yes. I still don't think the government should have legislation that infringes on their personal freedom to be stupid. But meh that is just my opinion.

Yes, trying to legislate stupidity is a slippery slope. Paying for these people's choices is just one of the consequences of living in a society.

We need government to step in to regulate these individuals against themselves and to legislate our dietary choices against the shameless owners who exploit people! Hopefully people will gain the message from the San Francisco law banning toys in happy meals, since the SF councilman are a champion of the people and an enemy of the greedy corporations!

(not srs)

the guy is just a good businessman who realizes the gimmick he has for his restaurant and is just playing on that for business. What is shocking is the moral outrage from the nutritionists and ABC anchors who act like this guy is 10000x worse than 99% of other restaurant owners who serve delicious but heart-attack friendly food.

SATURATED

FAT

ISN'T

THE

ENEMY

It's SUGAR that's killing us.

His fries cooked in lard are MUCH healthier than the trans fat laden alternative you can get at any other restaurant.

This is just one link of many that I have. Yes, it's controversial and no it's not what people want to hear, but this is what the evidence shows.

It's not sugar that is killing us. It's the AMOUNT of sugar people consume. Sugar breaks down to good old C6H12O6... it's our main source of metabolic energy. Same idea with saturated fats, it's what we need to make cholesterol for our cell membranes and what we need for a healthy immune system.

NEITHER sugar or saturated fats is the enemy. It's the lack of moderation and self control.

I completely support legislature that bans trans fats from being used in any kind of food production. Seriously why is this stuff still legal.

The fact that haughty pre-meds don't like it makes me want to go there so bad!!!

MUST GAIN 200 LBS, so i can have my quadruple bypass burger for free.

fries cooked in duck fat is where it's at

I don't get your point...or is it that you didn't have one?

Because it tastes great and keeps my peanut butter from separating.

I completely support legislation that bans cigarettes, alcohol, fast-food, mandates daily runs, and forces each American to purchase 3 servings of leafy green vegetables per day. Seriously why is this stuff still not the law?

Alcohol is good for you in moderation. A daily run mandate discriminates against those with bad knees...and ear infections. And a leafy green vegetable mandate is a no go for botanophobes.

Thanks for getting my back 👍

Word.

just more patients lined up in the ER

yeah, involve the government then get people crying socialism

How is this different from a liquor store owner directly targeting serious alcoholics. Imagine a liquor store owner giving away free promotional liquor to people with alcoholic liver disease. "Esophageal varices? Wash that blood down with a smooth swig of Jack!" Would anyone defend this?

I'm actually not against restaurants that advertise that they prioritize flavor over nutrition/health. The problem with this guy is that he's using these morbidly (literally) obese addicts (yes, addicts) to promote his business. People don't take food addiction seriously because hey, we all eat, right? It's a serious problem for some people like this restaurants now-dead spokesman and his replacement.

Sure, what this guy's doing is legal. But it's very wrong.

I've eaten here...PHX native...and it is disgusting! The food is nasty, some 35 year old ex-stripper serves your food while selling lucky stipes behind the counter and you are accompanied by old fat men who think the 35 year old ex-stripper is sexy...DO NOT EAT HERE!

Honestly I have don't see anything morally wrong with what the owner is doing. He is selling a product, and being completely upfront with customers about the negative effects of said product. Besides, anyone who eats at that place enough for it to actualy impact their health negatively, would be eating at McDonalds or some other equally disgusting place if they weren't eating here...

The food does look exceptionally greasy. And considering that people over 350 lbs eat for free (!) I'd guess there is a higher percentage of obese customers. Check out the Heart Attack Grill ad on youtube. i find it very disturbing. There is nothing funny about heart attacks or obesity. Side note: the guy in this ad is the 29 year old that died. Very sad.

A sociopath running a burger joint. Interesting.

As someone who was once considered obese, I can't find this funny like others. It's devastating to hear that people are actually falling for that kind of advertisement. Also, they're dragging kids into it. Sure, it's okay to splurge sometimes, but a 5,000 calorie meal is about 3 or 4 days worth of food (you'd also have to take into account the amount of sodium, fat, etc.). I was 18 years old and I stood 5'8 at 220lbs (highest weight) I couldn't stand to look at myself anymore. Now at 20, I weigh 170. People need to really take into account the physical, mental, and emotional repercussions when they constantly neglect their health like these people seem to be doing. Sorry for the rant. It's just kind of a passionate subject for me.

Yes, people do. But it's ultimately their decision as far as whether they do so.

And good for you. How'd you do it?

Lifestyle change. I just decided either I was going to die from complications to my being obese (which death from those is very high) or be like everyone else and take my chances with being killed by something else other than something that I can control. Healthy, balanced diet + gym = Me at normal weight 2 years later. Couldn't be happier🙂

Pretty sure it depends on the type of sugar.
Fructose and glucose have different metabolic pathways and dramatically different impacts on the human body (especially in the large doses we take today).

Even though this guy's message is twisted, I sort of get it. He says his food is unhealthy and people eat it anyway big whoop. He's not promoting heart attacks. He just wants to prove that people are stupid enough to eat there even if they have longstanding problems. My BMI is 19, so if i was in AZ i'd eat there

But seriously, I'm more concerned with the way they portray "nurses" than I am with the fatties eating free burgers.

Now that I've publicly defended nurses on SDN, let the flames begin!!!

Does anyone remember (and preferably have a link to) that one "BBQ trend" where they take some sort of meat and do this bacon strip weave around the thing and then BBQ it? I think I read about it in the New York Times... A link would be appreciated.

AHA! Ladies and gentlemen, I found it:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/28/dining/28bacon.html

Behold the BACON EXPLOSION. I think it's actually unhealthier than these mere burgers at the Heart Attack Grill and you know what? If I had the chance to eat one right now, I'd scarf that thing down faster than you can say "Kentucky BBQ".
