Hi, all. A friend of mine with similar ambitions turned me on to this website. I've been enjoying trolling the boards for the last couple hours and I have to say that I'm really excited to have found this community.

I'm 31 and a sophomore at a CC working on my Associate's in Surgical Technology (I'll have my certification in a year), after which I plan on getting my BS in Physiology or Microbiology. Then, I'm looking at med school around the age of 35 or 36, but I'm OK with that.

I just wanted to introduce myself and see if there were any others on here getting a relatively late start or planning on going to med school after having gained medical experience as a tech, nurse, MA or other assisting position in the medical field.

I find myself up another late night on SDN - inspired, like yourself, to try and haul myself back in to this healthcare game after being out just over a year. Keep you head up and know that hard work is appreciated. &Rewarded.

At a naïve 23 years of age, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with three amazing dudes - ages 31, 33, and 44 - in a med school gross lab. I learned so much about people, both living and dead, in particular that 'boys will be boys.' You're definitely going to bring a whole lot of experience to these young whipper-snappers they just blindly let in to schools...

Myself, onward

Welcome aboard. Sit back and relax. It's going to be a long, bumpy ride.

Heh. Thanks for the advice. Right now the big thing I have to work on is just taking things as they come. I want to be further along than I am, and I keep thinking further ahead than I should if I plan on keeping my sanity.

Other than that, I'm pretty sure I'm in good shape at this stage in the game.

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure the majority of us pre-meds spend our time daydreaming of the days we're performing cardiothoracic surgeries or delivering our first baby. :claps:

Welcome!

Hello. New here as well. I am currently an optometrist studying to take the MCAT next month, talk about taking the long route.

It's cool. When I was premed the first time from 2000-2002 or so I was kind of like you. Now, I'm daydreaming about finding a nice place to live when I return full-time to school and making A's in general chemistry this summer (retakes), lol. That, in itself, would get me excited. I'll get to med school when I get to med school. You'll make it too. 👍

Good luck buddy. It is tough but you will enjoy the ride.

Welcome to the newbs! Good to see new non-trads on here. Most of us have been in a situation similar to yours so sit back, read through some threads, ask questions, study hard and see you on the flip side!

I'm starting in a couple months at 32 (turning 33 a few months later) and I'm completely fine with it (aside from wishing I had started at 22 and practicing now 😛).

i guess i am not nearly as non-traditional as i thought. i spent the past 3 years in cc bumbling around in poly sci and psychology until i decided just recently to go for med school. i am more determined now than i feel i have ever been in my life, but i have been worried that my late start will put me behind competition. i will be 21 starting premed classes next semester, but i guess if 30 somethings are making it i have no problem!

Welcome to the newcomers! Best of luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Welcome! I attended cc on and off for 7 years while working full-time and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life! I finally went to a university, and am finishing my bachelor's. A very roundabout route.

The good news is... I start medical school in the fall! It's been a great journey so far, so enjoy. Education is always worthwhile. 🙂

Hey. I'm 33 and thinking of starting a post bacc program now. Is that the route you ended up going?

Welcome stares up bleary eyed and jello brained from finals!
