Hello...I have a NYCOM interview coming up -- ANY ADVICE? THANKS!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
don't even stress over this one. really kick back and easy going. i got asked nothing out of the ordinary. just had straightforward questions, why you want to go into medicine, what experiences have you had, what interests you about osteopathy, etc. the rest was just like having a normal conversation with somebody. good luck, and again, need not worry. take care.

they always ask your weaknesses and strengths, so keep that in mind. You will have 2 interviewers, usually consisting of one lecturer/physician and one Phd. researcher. Good luck.

...and of course, why do you want to be a DO? Why do u want to be a doctor and why you want to attend NYCOM? Good Luck!!!

thanks everyone --- also...i know i have been beating a dead horse here with this next question -- BUT -- do you still think i'll have a shot at an actual seat with such a late interview. thanks....for all of your help.

don't worry about the interview... stress-free... just enjoy the fact that it is laid-back as compared to other schools... the lunch they provide sucks so if you are the type that needs to eat right, bring your own snack or something... interview is very simple... just don't get flustered... make it a conversation... ask them a few questions about the school and you'll see how much they open up sometimes... and of course ask them questions about their work...

thanks for all the great advice....keep it coming. Also, do you think there will still be a few seats left when I go for my interview -- or am i shooting for the waitlist here? thanks

i dont want to be rude, but u asked like a billion times. no one here is pyschic... call miss cleo if u wanna know.

There are seats left. NYCOM is the 2nd largest MEdical sschool in the nation. the 1st being UMDNJ. And I mean medical school as in both MD and DO schools.

If you think about it, even if there are only 5 seats left... there will be 10-12 people at the interviews.... just feel confident that YOU WILL be one of those 5 people.

A lot of people who interview don't even want to go, but its like their saftey. They may have high gpa, high mcat, but honestly, the people who interviews arent idiots... they can sniff those people out. Some people who interview dn't even know what a DO really is. Your chances are good as long as you keep up hope.

I interview in late april, waitlisted... i wasnt even priority waitlist, but I manage to get a seat. For my class, there were 316 med students, 50 of which are foreign docs... so you know the stats. =)

Goodluck.

P.S. KNOW the history of osteopathy from AT STills, to first school, date, place, to all the other schools, his philosphy, why he thought of osteopathy.. he was sleeping on a rope one day by the tree and his headache was healed, MDs couldnt get the job done due to the death of his children from meningitis, etc. the california scandal w/ MDs and DOs.
