Hello, Pre-PT folks! Could I ask you all some newbie questions?

So, I'm not new to SDN in general, but I am new to this area of applications.

A little about me- I needed a DPT and an OTD early on in life; when I was 3 and a half, I was diagnosed with Asperger's and I had very poor motor control. With the work of professionals from several sublets of healthcare, I am now the functioning adult I am today.

Truthfully, I didn't think I was "cut out" for DPT/OTD work because I became very overweight in my teen years.

I'm 19, trying to counteract the years of eating my feelings and generally being lazy(10 pounds down!), and I've been interested in healthcare for a while now.

So, how does PT admissions work? I understand that there's a central system, like pre-med, but what are considered solid numbers as a PT? (I took a practice GRE, scored 80th percentile in Quant and 78th in Verbal. I have around a 3.3 cGPA and sGPA. I'm a rising junior but I'm transferring schools, so I may need to take an extra year already.)

Also, I heard that there was a sublet of PT that performed PT on animals. Does anyone know anything about that?

Check out the ptcas.org page to get an idea for what the application system looks like. There is a directory there that gives information about specific schools. Many of those schools in the directory give the average GRE and GPA's that they accept. So you can get a better idea by looking there. Generally speaking from what I've seen your GRE numbers sound great for most of the schools that I've looked at. Your GPA should probably go up for most programs though. If you're 19 you have time for that, though. Do some shadowing to see if PT is for you. Most schools require like 100 hours of that anyways in order to apply.

And the GPA is definitely something salvageable. I have at least two years to bring it back up, so it should be closer to acceptable. 🙂

I had applied to some colleges via PTCAS last year.I think a GPA 3.5 above should be good to get accepted .Good Luck 🙂
