Greetings to everyone on the forum.
I just want to say this is a very informative website, and has answered alot of questions that I've had.

I finally realized that dentistry is the career that I would like to pursue.
I'm starting from ground zero with minimimal college, and with a g.i. bill to start me off. I'm currently active duty with the Marine Corps, and I'll be going terminal next month.

I guess I'll be a frequent visitor to this site for the next few years. Good to meet you all.

Welcome, James! SDN is a wonderful resource with a mix of great advice and not so great advice. Hopefully you will be able to filter out the latter.

If you work your butt off in school and stay focused, you will do well! The equation to getting into dental school is pretty simple (however, the details make it difficult):

High grades
+ High DAT
+ (leadership + community service + shadowing)
----------------------------------------------
acceptance

By finding SDN, you are off to a great start. Good luck in all your endeavors!

You forgot apply early as possible, but other than that, you nailed it 😀

To OP: ex-military takes care of the leadership thing...and then some. Adcoms love it! If you were in Iraq and/or have earned the combat action ribbon or purple heart, play that up like no one's business. I found a way to sneak in my combat ation ribbon in just about every secondary question I was given.

Work hard, get that GPA high as possible, your #1 goal for a long time.
