I just thought I'd introduce myself here. I'm thinking of going to med school. Right now I'm in the military, with 2 years left. I work in an unrelated field. I've been a full time student (in addition to my full-time duty) at my local community college for over a year now. I've nearly earned my AAS degree, and I'm not too far away from my AS Computer Science. I'm thinking of switching course here, though, and heading for an MD or DO career. I'm still young (pushing 23). All my pre-reqs will be at a local community college, since there are no universities close enough for me to attend while I'm still in the service.
I figure I can knock out my pre-reqs in 4, maybe 5, semesters. I won't have a degree (aside from my AAS) and I'll be a bit shy of the 90 units med schools want, but I'll also be done with the military and able to go to a 4-year thanks to the GI Bill. Is it worth it to slog out a BA or BS before applying to med school? My major would probably end up being Biology or General Studies (I know, major doesn't really matter). I'd like to stay in California or nearby, and I've already got a list of schools I'd be interested in only a couple actually REQUIRE the BA or BS (both DO schools).
Anyways, hello! Friendly advice is always appreciated
