first of all , thank you all for always being there to support me 🙂 i love you all in this site.

This is my situation: I'm in my 3rd year of college, have 95 credits since i took lots of high school credits. i'm taking the mcat this august. ever since i learned about DO medicine i fell in love with it. I want to be a family practice physician or internal medicine physician and work in clinics that serve the uninsured/underinsured. I'm a minority, 19 years old (turning 20 soon). I've worked as a peer advisor at school, peer mentor, TA for freshman courses, part of several clubs and organizations, hospital volunteer, community volunteer, worked at 4 different places, etc. i'm planning to shadow 2 DO's in the next month .

My GPA is 3.95, my science gpa is like 3.960. My high school dual enrollment GPA is 4.0. I really WANT to get into NSU as soon as possible. I know this is what i want to do since i graduated high school. So my questiON IS:

-since i'm taking the mcat in august, do i stand a chance applying for next year's class?????also, if i do apply, would it be better to apply not intending to complete a degree, or intend to complete my degree in the summer of next year. *in order to do this i would have to take 15 credits each semester-fall,spring,summer, but i have done this since high school)

-also, is it worth filling out the application now even if i don't have my mcat scores yet. ?? thanks all and sorry for the long message. god bless

Yes, you have a chance for next year's class. You should apply intending to finish your degree before you start medical school (schools assume this). Yes, fill out your AACOMAS and send it in, even if you don't have your score! That way when the MCAT scores come in you've got everything done and the schools just need to glance at your MCAT.

Good luck!

thanks John!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 i'm studying hard for the mcat this and next month. so if you take the august mcat, by when would the schools receive your application?

You should submit your AACOMAS application soon if you haven't already done so. If you get a secondary, send that back so only thing they are waiting for in October is the MCAT score.

oh so i should submit my AACOMAS now? but don't they hold on to it until october anyway?

also, i'm doing my shadowing in the next few weeks, should i wait until i do that to include it in my AACOMAS extracurriculars? thanks 🙂

oh ok. i'll try to do my shadowing this or next week so i can include it in the application and submit.

also, do i have to include all courses i PLAN to take next year, even if i'm not 100% sure i'll take them. thanks 🙂

yes all the courses you "will" be taking next year.

I'm not sure about the shadowing but if you will be doing it I would just submit with it on it even if you haven't completed it yet.

Anyone else comment about putting things on the app if you are planning to do soon but haven't yet? that is a good question. I know with classes you put it on it, but activities?

...and just to add a piece of knowledge, I know that NSU will interview without a complete file. I am not sure if they require the MCAT, but I know that they will interview without all of your letters...so maybe there is a chance to even interview before your scores come out.

wow! thanks for your responses! you guys are awesome!!!!!

i am talking to 2 DO"s this week see if i can shadow them. Then i will be submitting my application and transcripts asap. I'm studying hard for the MCAT.

another question>>>>will it look bad that i haven't taken almost any upper division courses such as genetics, physiology, etc, although i plan to take them before matriculation??? i have like 95 credit hours, including AP/and college credits from high school dual enrollment. They're all A/A-'s

another another question> 🙂 Is it ok if i list a course i plan to take but later on i end up not taking it?

and one last question>>when does the school year start for NSU med school and for LECOM-B?

Thanks all, God bless

Yes, you can send updated transcripts in winter/spring to the schools to maybe give you a push

the other questions I really can't answer. I don't know why you would say you are going to take a class then not take it. But all classes I have to take for my graduation so I assume you aren't a science major.

:luck:

i mean i will not necessarily take the course the semester i'm indicating.

i just found out i'm going to have to apply without intending to finish my BS. NSU classes start in early august, and summer at my school ends the second week of august. so i won't be able to graduate next year in the summer and matriculate that same year. 🙁 this sucks

oh wow 🙁 i don't know if i should apply now or not

hey maybe i could just get a BS in liberal studies since i have so many credits. They don't have any specific requirements as long as you reach 120 credit hours and take 2 colloqiums. wow that's a possibility isn't it?

because the thing is that my biology BS requires me to take evolution, ecology, plant biology and a bunch of other courses so i would have to go to summer C next year in order to finish my BS on time. They only offer those courses in summer C, ending the 2nd week of august.

you are taking that many classes all at once? 😱

Well look, make sure you are accepted first. Then go talk to the dean. I know the school I'm attending that if I get accepted to med school and don't finish the degree that they would take my med school classes as transfers and I could get my degree. How neat is that? If its just one class, maybe they will let it slide. Or double up this fall/spring.

oh thanks. so yea, i guess i'm gonna worry about getting accepted first, and then talk to the dean about it. if it cannot be done, then i'll just get the BS in liberal arts. thanks for your help, god bless

I submitted my application and was accepted to complete a 2 day program at my state's medical school as a prosector and it wont take place until August--and I still listed it.

You always have a chance unless you don't apply. And your numbers are great.

Most schools require a credit minimum and not a degree to matriculate. Check with the med school you are interested in. 95 credits usually does it.

I took the August MCAT and got accepted. You can, too.

Yes, you can start your app now. Don't wait, get going. Get everything submitted as early as possible. Then you only have to release your MCAT score when it arrives. That is what I did and I had two acceptences in my hands by early December.

19 years old? I'm jealous...just apply. Put the DO shadowing down in advance if you're pretty sure it is a done deal. Who cares if your classes are changed slightly from what you predict. Things happen. I seriously doubt one of the med schools you want to attend would reject you because you clearly stated that "ecology" was to be taken in the Fall when in reality you take it in the Spring/Summer. 👍

i'm shadowing a do this tuesday 🙂 i'm also changing my major to liberal studies
